I'm a nurse. Your bp should be at top # is 100 t0 140 no higher and bottom to 60 to 90 no higher. I would try to find a happy place and try to retake it. See your doctor about some medication to control it. If you are on medication, it's not working ask him to switch it. You need to get it down. Your heart is working too much and that isn't good. You are damaging it. See your doctor.

Your blood pressure numbers are out of wack 76 diastolic (resting phase) isn't terrible, just a little up from where a doctor would prefer it to be. But your systolic (pumping phase) is waaaay up there and you absolutely do need to talk to a physician. I'm assuming that the numbers you give are an example of about what your BP has been running, and not just one isolated reading. If you haven't been monitoring it routinely, do that for a couple of days so you can establish a pattern. But do see a doctor. They do not call hypertension the "silent killer" for nothing.

It is said that regardless of age, the upper limit of one's BP is 140/90. So at 167, systolic BP is rather high while 76 is normal for diastolic. Are you using digital BP apparatus? I wouldn't rely too much on them. Aneroid or better yet, mercurial sphygmomanometers are still the old reliables.

Well, it's elevated. It's not "oh my god your head is going to explode - get to a hospital right now" type of elevated, but definately above normal. If that's just one reading, then don't worry about it much, blood pressure rises and falls depending on the time of day, circumstances, your mood and how you're feeling in perfectly healthy people, but if you know someone who's blood pressure is consistantly that high, then he should be treated for it.

No that is not really bad but it needs to be monitored for a week and if it stays elevated it needs to be treated.
