I am looking for Stem Cell Therapies availbale in India for the treatment of my daughter 11 yrs, diagnosed as Juvenile Diabetic, though no one in the family had ever had it.
Heard that some hospitals in chennai are working on this area.

My God,can't people read?I have been crying hoarse about Dr.Ramanujam and Mr.Giridhar
curing diabetes.Only a few are able to come out of their educated 'know everything' attitude.
I can only tell you what my father and my relatives and now many Internet friends have gained from Dr.Ramanujam and Mr .Giridhar.
Assuming I am wrong , you will just waste some time.But if, IF I am right, you would be losing so much. In my experIEnce Western medicines,ie., Allopathy can destroy and now we should not go around searching for medicines that are actually harmful for us and our children.Well What can say except,I am Sorry that I only pity people who are not open minded.Friend DON'T DO IT (stem cell therapy) TO YOUR CHILD.

Dear reginachi...How can you find the difference between cure and reduction or control. If it reduces very well say around 100
will you suggest that he/she should continue the medicines.Will the Doctor tell the person to continue. Further there is a Homeopath with more than 23 years of experience involved.
My contention is,No western medicine can control Diabetes for
long.The patient generally dies of complications.Further, Both Type I and Type II are names given by Western medical system for deficiencies of the body. Please read the book by Dr.Ray strand.

Stem cell therapy is a form like bone marrow transplantation and is at infantile stage in development.It is not yet standardized or practiced even in developed countries leave India alone.It may come into reality 20 years later.Do not get too excited on seeing castles built in air by some Indian doctors who wants name by creating a propaganda.For best advice,visit www.diabetes.org maintained by American diabetic association which is at forefront of battle against diabetes.In chennai,you better consult a really qualified doctor like an Endocrinologist who is better trained rather than some hospitals which thrive under the name of "diabetes center and research" where actually no research is going on,yet put that word to evade income tax.

I am not aware of any stem cell projects that are clinically ready for patients anywhere in the world at this point.

This is still basic science and is still in its early stages. The stem cells we have been able to create in labs are not able to respond properly in response to glucose and are prone to becoming cancerous.

Also, this type of treatment would require a transplant, which must be accompanied by immune suppressing drugs. Even if the cells are made to contain your DNA, the defective immune response that killed off the original cells is still there. These drugs have serious side effects, and are not given to children. Any kind of "unnecessary" transplant will not be preformed on a child.

Have you looked into an insulin pump? There is a lot of research going on with Type 1 (autoimmune or juvenile) diabetes lately. Keep her blood sugars in good control, so she will be healthy if and when a viable treatment or "cure therapy" comes along.

There is a Dr.Valdez in Mexico who has pioneered transplanting pig cells without using immunosupression into Type 1 diabetic children using Sertoli cells for tolerance. The procedure appears successful, but is not approved in the US (Canada is working on it), and costs about $40,000 US.

You can also stay on top of trials by going to www.clinicaltrials.gov. Some trials listed may take foreign patients.

There is hope, but your concern is to just keep your daughter healthy for now.

P.S. Type 1 diabetes is fatal if not treated with insulin! You can't just use a "natural" treatment like you would for obesity related Type 2 diabetes. You are confusing Type 1 diabetes and Type 2 diabetes. If there was a natural cure for Type 1 diabetes the disease would not exist. People have died because of believing in snake oil cures. There is no product on the market that can stop autoimmunity, the cause of Type 1. Replacing insulin isn't harmful, insulin is a NATURAL hormone which everybody needs to live.

EDIT: I am sorry if I offended anyone, but I must point out you are still misguided in this case. I read the article, and the gentleman refered to did take insulin, but he had TYPE 2 (adult onset and obesity related) diabetes. The child in question has TYPE 1 diabetes, which is an autoimmune disease. Even if there was a "miracle cure" to rengenerate beta cells, they would be killed off again by the same attack that cause the diabetes in the first place. The autoimmunity, which is the CAUSE of Type 1 diabetes, has not been corrected. So far, we do not have ANY way to treat this, even Western medicine.

I am not opposed to natural medicine for Type 2 diabetes. I agree there are lifestyle and herbal treatments that can help some. However, this is a completely different form from Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetics do not use "drugs", they simply inject the insulin they no longer make. We all need insulin to live, the only difference is those with Type 1 diabetes get their insulin from an injection.

If this person takes her child off insulin to try a herbal/homeopathic remedy, her child will surely die. This has happened, and these cases usually end up in court, with much suffering and pain.

It is fine to try alternative medicine alongside Western medicine, but no one should promise a cure. I DO believe in nutritional medicine 100%, but we can't use it to "cure" disease like Type 1 diabetes. I do agree 100% that nutritional medicine CAN help with complications, yes, but that was not what the original poster claimed. He claimed a CURE.

You did make some good points, but I just do not want a child to fall ill. Type 1 diabetes is a very serious and potentially fatal disease if not properly managed.

stem cell therapy for diabetes is more a dream than reality right now, they havent actually been successful with it. you might be able to find a research study though, talk to your doctor and see if he knows anything about it. or contact the hopsitals that you heard are using it.
