i thought std was a regional dialling code, or short for standard, so i am with you, ( or wish i was)..i thought the flicking bean answer was best and funny give them 10 points !

STD is a telephone code, it used to also be the abbreviation for a sexually transmitted disease but the term in current use is STI. This stands for sexually transmitted infection and as far as I am aware is less likely to be misunderstood as STD as an abbreviation.

To be fair on u std does stand for standard but if it is spelt like this S.T.D then it is sexually transmitted diesease

Yep, I learned that many years ago - in my teens. The English language can be so confusing though. STD can also stand for "Short Term Disability".
