Also, i thought this was a virus that stays in you forever but i have read on the internet that the body can clear it up itself within around 8 months. Im very confused and want to know before my second pap smear.

no you can have an abnormal pap and not have HPV at all. HPV is the most common cause of abnormal paps but not the only thing that causes them. also many strans of HPV can clear up on their own like you think. its only the few strans that cause cancer that need to be really worried about. many of the new pap tests will actulay send the sample on for more testing if its abnormal... they will do a DNA check for the HPV virus that cause cancer... at least they do here. check with your doc.

No. In addition to HPV, hormonal changes and alterations in the balance of normal bacteria in the vagina can also cause inconclusive pap results. Mild bacterial infections or yeast infections can also cause mild abnormalities on the cervix.

Human papilloma virus is all around us. There are a huge number of strains of the virus, and only a handful of them are capable of causing cervical cancer. If the pap result shows atypical squamous cells of uncertain significance, or ASCUS, the usual protocol is to repeat the pap in 6 months to ensure the cells are back to normal. I hope it goes well for you.
