Intermittently I have a stinging or pricking pain in my urethra it may
come and go what does this mean. I have had prostatitis in the
past could this be an isolated symptom?

This is definitely one to see your doctor about if you have ever been sexually active. The first thought that comes to mind is chlamydia, as this is a typical symptom. Chlamydia is easy to diagnose and treat these days: a single dose of a particular antibiotic will knock it out.
There are a number of other possibilities as well.
