Lifestyle! Lifestyle! Lifestyle!
Sedentary jobs, remote controls, video games, videos, DVD's, computers, the internet, the automobile (2 at least in every household), shopping malls (instead of walking to the corner grocery), the tremendous accessibility to food - it's everywhere, medications (we are an overly medicated society - going to the doctor for a prescription instead of working on the problem and letting nature help), fast food, slow food, lack of physical education programs in the schools, vending machines, cell phones, working moms (no one at home to supervise or cook a nutritious meal for the family - so everyone goes out to eat), lack of self control (we want it now and we get it now - then we throw it away), processed foods, snack foods.

In the United States, we are on a magic carpet ride to oblivion not from terriorist or any foreign government - we are riding headlong into destroying ourselves with our lavish life styles. Sad isn't it that our forefathers and mothers came here to find a better life for their children. They found it except that over the years it has been so perfected, that we lost our values, our ability to enjoy labor, our ability to wait for good times and good things.

We are a disposable society - we don't have to keep anything because tomorrow there will be something else there to replace what we threw away today.

Lifestyle! Lifestyle! Lifestyle!

part of it probably has to do with our advertising. Upon visiting other countries, i noticed that there aren't that many fast food adverisments. If you watch a lot of tv, first of all, you are being exposed constantly to hamburgers, fries, pizza, junk. not too many veggie ads. Also, if you're watching all that tv, or playing video games, like most of the younger generations seem to prefer, then those people are pretty much sedentary, not burning enough of those calories off. With a convenience store on every corner, you barely have to move your behind to get what you want in this country. It's really a shame. Look at all the diet pill ads you see after the fast food ads- what is this teaching people? eat the burger then take the pill so you won't get fat. it's all a big scam to make money.

Obesity leads to poor health so the question is what is obese and why are we experiencing an epidemic of obesity in this country. Your Body Mass Index (weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared) should be less than 25 and above this is considered overweight while above 30 is considered obese. Over the past 20 years the physical fitness of folks has declined and most are now sedentary (which I am as I type this). In addition most of what people eat is fast and highly processed which generally means low in nutrient value but high in salt, fat, cholesterol, and often sugar. Great question - I hope that people take this to heart (literally) as this is the 1st generation in the history of this country which is not expected to live as long as their parents.

It's true, I read an article once, and it said that people in US are getting fatter every year, and that Americans should start watching what they, and how much they eat! Because most people are busy working to make ends meet, many might not have time to cook thus eat too much fast food. Fats food and many famous restaurants in the US serve a portion size that is larger that the recommended size, add to that the junk food like potato chips and pop corn that many like to eat between the meals while watching TV or working (by the way ads can add to the problem because they encourage people to buy unhealthy foods, and attract the kids or adults with gifts and surprises with every meal, etc), less exercises, and the excessive drinking problem of alcohol beverages and sodas like coca cola, and you get the problem that you ask about in your question!

Most likely the changes in lifestyle, especially since the 1970s. With changes in technology, we're able to access most everything we need without a great deal of physical effort. Combining that with newer food additives could very well be another part of the reason why.

1.}Because Americans are lazy
2.} Because Americans eat ALOT of fast food which probably have addicting ingredients resulting in obseity
3.} Because our chickens and cows ect.are given steriods and crap like that that make them grow faster, go to a different country, you'll be suprised at how small their poultry Animals are compared to ours.
4.}Because our technology is so advanced with all these video games and about everyone owning cars and stuff like that, that most people don't even bother excerisizing anymore
5.}Americans are Lazy
6.}You don't have to nessesarly have to be overwieght to be unhealthy, the smallest or healthiest looking people can have the most suprising percentage of body fat, If you haven't noticed, there are people that don't need to excersize, eat like crazy, barley ever excersize, and still manage to stay thin, this is because of their fast metabolism, but this doesn't mean that they stay healthy.
7.} People in france and other countries eat 7 corse meals 3 times a day, they take about an hour to eat, The average American takes about less than 25 minutes Ever eat really fast, and then when you're finished eating feel like you're about to throw up? Well when the french people eat that slow, thier stomach has time to settle their food and tell their brains "I'm full" , But when we eat so fast without barley chewing our food , the food barley has time to settle, and you end up eating about twice as much as you need to. Which results in twice the calories...sugar..salt..ect...
8.} Soda, why drink something that's strong enough and has enough acid to clean a vehicle battery? Believe it or not, it's a fact that the average soda has more battery acid than a battery itself!, That's kinda scary when you think of it. Imagine what it's doing to your insides, If you're a heavy coke drinker, Your stomach could be pratically tinted.
9.} did I forget to mention that Americans are lazy?

It is the United States lifestyle and the reliance on "fast-food" as one of each days meals. The US continues to be a quick gratification society which causes more and more children, men and woman to overeat and not exercise properly. It is all in your priorities - but we the US do not have them right.

Eat too many wrong foods, not enough right foods and a lot of people don't exercise. Many have jobs where they are sitting at a desk all day or not moving much.

If you think about it different Countries have different foods. What kinds of foods fall under the category of American Food in other countries. McDonalds is a perfect example of what American Food is. Fries, Hamburgers, Cheesebergers, and various other items. If you have to ask this question, don't ask the people of America. We just consume it. Ask the Food!
