Corn is a vegetable, but it offers much less nutritional value than most other vegetables. It is starchier, lower in vitamins, and more difficult for the human body to digest. Don't get me wrong--I love corn on the cob, and I do eat it when I want, but do not make the mistake of thinking that all vegetables are created equal. You would benefit much more from eating something green and leafy, than from eating corn.

The Latin Scientific name for both the family of Corn and Wheat is Poaceae in the kingdom of Plantae. In other words they both are plants in the same family, yet they are different genus: Corn:Zea, Wheat:Triticum; and wheat even belongs to a sub-family group called Pooideae.

On the government food pyramid Corn could be included in Grains (that includes wheat bread, a.k.a. white bread) because of corn bread, corn cakes, corn fritters, hominey, polenta, etc. ; and a vegtable because of fresh/frozen corn. Note that fresh corn vegtable is a different variation than the corn grown for grain.

Corn is a vegetable, but some people consider it part of the bread family because it is a starchy vegetable (along with peas and potatoes and certain types of beans) and is more similar nutritionally and calorically to bread than to green leafy vegetables.

Corn is a vegetable, though corn does contain a lot of starch that can make products like bread, it is still a vegetable. Like potatoes, potatoes can also make good bread, but they are still a vegetable.

Corn is a vegetable. It is slightly higher in carbs than many other vegetables. The only possible stretch to bread would be cornbread.

Corn is a Grain. I can see how it could be called in the bread family. We use it as a veg, but it should be counted as a "starch" like bread, rice, potatoes.

It depends on how you are classifiing families. As far as Carbohidrates are concerned it is in the bread family and reated just like bread on the Atkins Diet. As far as food groups are concerned, it should be in the fruits and vegtables.
