Yes I think it's terrible. I grew up on a farm and my father butchered our rabbits for food. Rabbits scream terribly, not just when they're being killed but when the other rabbits are as well. It's horrible!

I haven't eaten rabbit, but I would try it if it was well prepared. I don't see what the problem is, I heard it tastes like chicken. I guess I can kind of see where you are coming from. I wouldn't eat a cat or dog, unless that's al there was. Just because an animal is cute doesn't mean you can't eat it. No one ever complains if someone eats the ugly looking Tuna fish. Why is that?

I am sorry about this revelation for you! The truth is, many people in the world eat rabbit, especially hunters. Long ago, I too, hunted "wild" rabbits for sport. My father always told me that if you hunt an animal and eat it, it is not sinful. But I can think of many other "domestic" animals that I would rather eat. Namely;
chicken, beef, or seafood. These food types are more acceptable to consumers as a protein-rich nutrition source and are very common in local markets today. I truly believe that what people decide to accept as a food source is relative. As you may not know, dogs are a delicacy in many Asian countries. As for me, rabbits taste rather good, but tame ones are much more tender. But they lack the skin that a chicken has to offer and therefore do not taste as good when fried. And therefore, I do not think eating a rabbit is so terrible, even though rabbits are one of the most timid and innocently delicate creatures on this Earth. (but so are cows... when did you last eat a hamburger?)
I wonder?

I would feel the same way if I were in a country that ate cat meat, because I am a cat lover. But yes, there are people that hunt and raise rabbits for food. I do not think it is terrible, but I wish to be sensitive to your feelings and I will not relay my personal experiences on this matter.

What's so terrible about it? Just because rabbits are unbelievably cute, and make nice pets, doesn't alter the fact that they're made of meat!! Deer too - they're cute, although not such good pets I assume..!
; )

Personally, I don't see any reason for a rabbit or dog - or cat - to be treated differently from cows, sheep, pigs or chickens. Did you know that pigs are the closest animals to humans? When's the last time you heard talk of a chimp to man transplant? Surely if ANY animal deserves to be treated as superior it would be man's cousin, the pig..!
; )

Back to the bunnies, I've only eaten it a couple of times, and found it more bony than chicken, but not so different. But you may not realise that in many parts of the world there are too many rabbits - and the psychos go around POISONING them!!! Now THAT'S criminal! If they really MUST remove part of the rabbit population, surely shooting them and feeding people is much more 'humane' (for want of a better word)?! Even turning them into cat food and dog food for people's pets would be better than just destroying them and leaving them to rot...!

Well yes. But that must have been the way it was prepared. Besides there is not enough meat on the creature to last more than one or two meals. So not a very good animal to go hunting for. I heard once that the meat on a rabbit is such a poor quality that if that was your only protein source in a month you would be dead. But I've never checked that out.
So rabbit, not a favorite.
Besides it is not as terrible as eating lobster. The way they are cooked is down right cruel.

I am pretty sure that the Chicken union is studying a way to replace chicken "nuggets" with rabbit on McDonalds menu...
And a nice big Easter bunner will serve a family of 6 quite nicely!!

rabbit is the national dish in the country where i am living at the moment (island of malta). it has taken me years to get over the fact that rabbits are killed and eaten here ( im from the usa) my husband loves them but i prefer to give it a miss as i feel sorry for the rabbits, but then that goes for any animal that is killed so we can eat. I prefer vegetables and nuts/legumes/grains that way nothing has to die for me to live

I've made rabbit a few times. The meat is quite good. Personally I don't think it's terrible to eat animals for food.
