I just started on Lantus two days ago..My doctor mentioned Humalog to me but for now I'm still taking Regular a couple of times a day. My sugars are way too high. The doctor just increased my Lantus again today. Thanks..

Thank you. Does Humalog work better for most people?

I have not used Regular insulin since Humalog became available years ago (Lantus is great but this is a basal or long acting insulin). Regular is variable in onset and duration and typically too slow in onset for proper prandial (post meal) gluocse control. Humalog and Novalog are the 1st truly rapid acting insulins - both of which are available in pen systems that are much preferred by all - and the use of Regular is no longer appropriate.

yes, humalog is a modified insulin, acts faster, its action lasts about 4 hours (humulin R 6 hours), therefore it is advisable to be combined with Lantus and not NPH.
you didn't mention the doses of rapid and basal insulin.
there might be an imbalance between them. Usually the basal insulin should represent half of the total daily dose. Maybe the dose of Lantus should be increased (if you don't experience nocturnal hypoglicemias)
I've had some patients whos glycemic control improved when Lantus was administered in the morning, not evening.
I know they say it lasts 24 hours, but it fact it's 18-28, in some people it doesn't last the whole day. And you may need it more during the day. just an idea

Hmmm... very interesting... I don't think it would matter so much for those who 'came of age' before MTV, or those younger of us who came along in its infancy, or have never had music television. Why? Because we got all our music from the radio, or friends recommendations. Now, for the 'MTV generation', I believe that it *would* make a difference. It seems that with a lot of the pop / disney type acts, they put more effort into the videos than the actual songs, and that is what makes them appeal to the fans ~ for some it's nothing to do with the music, just that the singer looks 'hot'. From what I've seen of the under-18s around me, they watch music TV far more than they listen to the radio, so without the videos, these artists probably wouldn't get the same amount of exposure. BQ & BQ2 : I do not watch them, as I do not have music channels. BQ3 : BBC Radio 4 - they aren't a music station. BQ3.1 : In my mum's car ~ Magic.FM ; BBC Radio 2 BQ4 : nothing :(

Diabetes is usually treated through a combination of diet (low sugar), exercise and medications/insulin. Milder cases can be controlled with just diet an/or exercise while more severe cases require meds or insulin as well.
