Just a suggestion: don't waste your money on commercial cough drops. My wife is a nurse and she explained that ANY hard candy is just as helpful (or not, as the case may be). My favorites for a bad sore throat are lemon drops or those atomic fireball jawbreakers.

That sounds awful! The only times I've had white spots on my throat are when I've had tonsilitis. Did the dr just look at your throat or did he/she do a throat culture? If it's definitely not an infection where antibiotics are warranted, try pouring hot, steamy water into a mug, add lemon juice and honey. The lemon juice has antimicrobial properties and the honey is soothing. Hope you feel better soon.

I have sympathy for you... I was sick a while ago and near the end of my cold I got a sore throat. I also used the Theraflu drink, it helped for me. I used the specific type that is for severe colds.
What I found to be very helpful also was black tea with honey. I drank a lot of Rooibos tea (which naturally contains antioxidants) without milk, and two tablespoons of honey.
Avoid dairy products, it can make your sinuses worse.
Try Sudacare shower soothers to open up your sinuses so you don't have to sleep with your mouth open.
To make the duration of your sickness shorter, take zinc and vitamin c. Also, try Airborne tablets.
I hope this helped.

-Add 1/2 teaspoon turmeric and 1/2 teaspoon salt in 1 cup of warm water. Gargle with this mixture twice a day.
-Drink at least 8 glasses of fluids a day. Warm drinks with honey and lemon are particularly soothing.

Taking antibiotics for the sinus infection? If so, that will help in 24 hours. Take a decongestant to keep it from draining down your throat.

Put rice in a sock and heat it in the microwave. Then put it on your throat while you are lying down. It opens up your throat and makes it feel better. It really does work, no joke.

Try fruit like Pineapple
Drink lots and lots and lots and lots of juice and water, soda also helps.
Stay away from dairy (it creates a flam in your throat which can make it hard to swallow and hurt more.)
Try this tea you can buy called Thera Flu
Try lots of herb, green and bedtime teas.
Good luck! :)
