Normally the consultant will see you before the endoscopy as they need to establish the need for such study and to explain to you the potential risks and benefits of the procedure. In my experience the consultant usually sees the individual immediately after the procedure or within 24 to 48 hours unless the physician is waiting for the results of a biopsy (which may take several days but not more than 5). A longer delay is unkind as you will worry about the results - give them a call and ask them to be considerate.

If the consultant is the gastroenterologist, he/she tells you and your family member/friend the result after you wake up from the procedure. When they send off biopsies, they usually have you come back in a couple of weeks to discuss the results, or if they get a result of h pylori positive, they will call you at home and start you on the antibiotic regimen by calling prescriptions in to a pharmacy of your choice. Most often the urgency of your re visit depends on your diagnosis. If you have an ulcer and it is actively bleeding, chances are you will be hospitalized. A lot depends on what they find when they scope you
