There is no cure for HIV. While the goal of anti-retroviral therapy is to stop the replication of the virus, scientists belief that a small amount of the virus can remain dormant in areas (such as the brain) that are not treated/affected by the current medications. We all love to see the viral count as undetectable (under 75 pmm), but it is every present somewhere in our bodies.

Todd (AIDS - positive since 2004)

Todd, no human being has overwhelmed HIV. There are drugs at the moment that would want to diminish your viral load to stages that are undetectable and would also develop your CD4 count number. in case you get off those drugs the cycle begins throughout, viral load up and CD4 down. i have stated that quite a few human beings listed less than are putting forward some harsh issues about this guy, some implying that he's a scumbag and it truly is the reason he has HIV. that is this kind of slam adversarial to tens of millions of those who're contaminated with this virus, an fairly hateful ingredient to assert. you do not might want to be a scumbag to change into contaminated with HIV and not in any respect each and every scumbag is contaminated. How vicious of someone to advise otherwise. also, an same drugs that Mr. Johnson takes are available to at least something else of the inhabitants, devoid of regard to ability to pay. I truly haven't any opinion of Mr. Johnson as someone, yet for anybody and easily everyone that has their disease less than administration, I applaud. That is going for the lonely hooker, the policeman, the fireman, the well-being practitioner, the professor - easily everyone. You requested a intense question that delivered out some fairly gruesome responses. i'm sorry.

Magic Johnson has HIV and will continue to have HIV.
At some point in his old age, as his immune system declines, his HIV will become active again and most likely turn into full blown AIDS and all that entails.

Yes he does.
Just a little piece of info off the subject, there is a vaccine they use in Africa that cures HIV in newborn babies. So many children in Africa are born HIV positive. The vaccine only works in newborns because there bodies are naturally fighting off the virus at birth and the medicine helps fight it. These babies are growing up healthy and HIV free. Oprah does a lot of work in Africa and it was on one of her tv specials. I don't know if they use it in the USA. It may not be FDA approved or something like that.

Unfortunately, HIV is not like a cold. You can't treat it and get rid of it. Once you have, you have for life. Therefore, yes, Magic still has the gift that keeps on giving.

Yes. He may be somewhat immune to symptoms though. He doesn't talk about it much, but there are some people that can have it for years and years (20+) and still be pretty darn healthy. They don't know why this is yet, but I read about it in a medical journal and in Time magazine last year. He was mentioned in the article as doing well.

Yes. There is no cure for HIV (yet). So once you have it, you have it until you die. He's been positive for 15 years now.
