I had protected sex with this girl 6 days ago, but now I'm starting to hear some things about her. I realize this was a very stupid thing to do, and now I'm very paranoid. I don't have any signs or symptoms of STD, but I want to be sure I'm okay. Will a urine test be accurate if there are no current symptoms? Any information will be helpful, thanks.

Yes.

Your doctor can test you for chlamydia and gonorrhoea using a particular urine test called a PCR test.

If you used a condom you probably would not have got either of these infections from this contact, but if you're sexually active it's worth having regular tests, and the PCR test makes this easy.

Don't listen to rumours about other people's STI status. They're nearly always just that - rumours. Anybody who has had sex can have an STI, whether people talk about them or not.

To answer your question, No. Since you had protected sex don't worry unless you have some sign and symptoms of something. No need to run before your chased! A urine test does not do alot and it's used as a adjunct coupled with other test to determine a diagnosis. Although you would do a urine test as part of an STD workup, there would be other tests performed more specific for whatever your signs and symptoms were. So don't fret, dont listen to gossip. How did the people you heard things from know you had sex? Oh well, Hope this answered your ? Happy Holidays do not worry!

it depends on the disease.

Gonorrhea. This bacterial infection at first may cause a slight discharge from the vagina, penis, or anus.

Chlamydia. Chlamydia trachomatis is often called "the silent epidemic" because infections are common yet many people do not realize that they are infected.

Syphilis. Syphilis is a bacterial infection that can be easily missed. The first symptom is a painless blister or sore that will disappear on its own.

Human papillomavirus (HPV). One of the most common STDs in the United States, this virus can infect the genital area, causing genital warts (condyloma), and has been associated with cervical cancer.

Genital herpes. This virus causes recurrent, periodic outbreaks of sores in the genital region and remains in you body for life.

Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C. These are viral infections that can be transmitted through sexual contact. Hepatitis B and C affect the liver and can severely damage it.

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). HIV is associated with AIDS.
