Potassium is can be high with cardiac patient because it is often given as a supplement since blood pressure treatment frequently includes diuretics (water pills). These pills often cause potassium loss from losing potassium in the kidneys when you urinate. The patient will need doctor to monitor blood level of potassium if he is prone to high levels. The key is to avoid high potassium foods - orange juice, bananas, cantaloupe, avocado, baked potatoes, mango , raisins to name a few. We need potassium for healthy muscles. If the patient starts to get leg cramps this could be a sign of low potassium and should try a banana or something else to eat. if cramps persist, he should call the MD. the heart is a muscle and needs a balanced potassium level to prevent arrythmia - irregular heart activity. Check a site like WebMD for low potassium diet info.

Nope those were all the things that I was going to tell you to do. I agree with you on the Gatorade it tastes horrible but the other stuff I love and it is not only helping you with getting potassium but it is a good diet plan in general to have those things in your normal diet.
