Like any food, Sushi can be a rip-off. It all depends on how much someone is charged for it. If you go to a high end restaurant, a good sushi dinner will cost upwards of $50 bucks. Same goes for a steak dinner. Then there are places that cost less, in the 15 to 25 dollar range - for both steak and sushi. Some are very good, some are very bad.

So, no, I wouldn't single out "sushi" as a rip-off, but I would say that there are "rip-off" prices to be found for any kind of food, and there are good values to be found for any kind of food, sushi included.

I can't agree with you. Actually, it is quite affordable where I am from. I order a lot though because I like to try more than just one kind. Our fish is also quite good here, so I enjoy eating sushi. Sushi is an art and is very focused on presentation. I can enjoy my food if it is well presented. I hate it when my sushi falls apart, some people just don't know how to make it.

No, not really. Sushi chefs take years of training before they can work in a restaurant. Sushi-grade tuna costs about $30-40 per pound. Wasabi also costs a lot too.

i dont think it is a rip off
i think you just havent been to the right sushi place... price is not always indicative of the quality of the sushi, for example i went to a gourmet sushi restaurant and payed nearly 100$ enjoyed it alot less than the sushi i receive at where i normally go, which sells for around 20-30$ for a meal

No, It takes years to train a Sushi chef. Sushi rice making is an art. Sushi grade fish is expensive to get.
So, I think it's justified to pay more for good Sushi.

I like sushi, but I am aware that the fish needs to be super fresh, so I am willing to pay more to get fresh fish.

I see sushi as a luxury food.

oh and in regards to getting it cheaper in some places, you get what you pay for. I know this first hand as being one who ended up with a parasitic infection from some bad tuna.

so yeah its expensive, but I view it as a treat.

Yumm........maybe sushi tonight!!!

Nope, Sushi is no more of a rip off than any other food. It is expensive because it contains sea food.
