It is not really uncommon to have fluid leakage with a bad ear infection. You would need to really understand the middle ear. When you get an ear infection it is due to fluid buildup behind the tympanic membrane that is not allowed to drain through the eustacian tube. You have a warm, moist spot for bacteria to thrive. It is this fluid that you are seeing. It is possible that your tympanic membrane has been perforated. This will heal on its own and your hearing will return to normal.

I think he may have Otitis Media, which is a type of ear infection. It's pretty common in children you have had Ear Tube Surgery. Symptoms and Diagnosis of Otitis Media Symptoms of otitis media include: -pulling or rubbing the ears because of ear pain -fever -fussiness or irritability -fluid leaking from the ear -changes in appetite or sleeping patterns -trouble hearing If the doctor suspects a bacterial infection (often based on the presence of pus behind the eardrum), treatment will begin immediately. A good understanding of the typical bacteria that cause OM can guide the physician in which antibiotics to use. In some instances, the physician may need to use a needle inserted through the eardrum to suck out a sample of the pus from the middle ear for a laboratory culture. Called a tympanocentesis, this procedure can more specifically guide the antibiotic therapy. If tubes are present, infection is seen as it drains through the tube and out of the ear canal. One may see a liquid leaking out that is clear, bloody or yellowish depending on the particular infection. A bloody discharge is usually no more serious than any other discharge and generally represents nothing worse than an infection. Swimming and showering require the use of ear plugs or ear molds to prevent water going through the tube. These can be provided for you in our office. As long as the tubes are in, a certain amount of follow-up is recommended. Generally this necessitates a brief office exam every 3-4 months

You need to go back to the doc in the morning and get your ears rechecked as it sounds like you have may have more problems than just an ear infection. Call the doc in the morning and get this checked out.
