"up and down" may just mean that your control is not as tight as it should be... You really have to get a firm grip on diabetes, drugs alone won't handle it all the time... we all go through periods of instability - especially around holday times, in periods of stress, or as a result of infections or other factors.

Type 2 DM can be controlled - NOT cured - by diet and exercise, in some cases.
You cannot simply "stop eating" or "stop eating sugar" - to say this indicates a serious - and dangerous - lack of understanding of the condition.
The body needs a certain amount of sugars/carbohydrates, along with other nutirents. The problem for Type 2's is that we don't metabolise them correctly, becasue we don't respond correctly to the natural insulin produced by our bodies.

Careful and regular monitoring of your blood glucose is essential if you'r going to start making chages to your diet or lifestyle... and will help you to guage your progress.

Diet and liefstyle can certainly help, in almost all Type 2's... but please do not be fooled by claims that this remedy or that will completely remove the need for medication... you may get lucky, you may not, each of us is different.

500mg of Metformin is a moderately heavy dose, so you may either have a severe case, or maybe you do need to look at diet changes. or possibly another medication, metformin doesn't work for all of us, all the time.

Work with your doctor, consult with him/her on the changes you plan to make.

By doing as I have done.....

To preksheena: I have seen quite a few (type 2) diabetics get off medication... done it myself for days at a time. So, it's not really hard to believe. It's all about weight management, diet, and exercise. No big deal.

The only way to control diabetes is through medication, food and exercise.
Test your sugar often and talk to your endo to work out a better plan for yourself.

I am doing it through diet, because my diabetes is partially due (in my own estimation) by my systemic yeast condition.

If I get the yeast condition under control, I think it will bring my diabetes under control too.

Check out the "yeast" link at www.hufa.org if you are curious about this condition and how it relates to blood sugar imbalances.
