Yes - AVANDIA is useful to balance or reduce diabetes in blood.
Brand name - AVANDIA - Rosiglitazone is a drug that reduces the amount of glucose (sugar) in the blood. It is in a class of anti-diabetic drugs called "thiazolidinediones" that are used in the treatment of type II diabetes. The other member in this class is pioglitazone (Actos). Patients with type II diabetes cannot make enough insulin, and the cells of their body do not respond normally to the reduced amounts of insulin that are present. (Insulin is the hormone produced by the pancreas that stimulates cells to remove glucose from the blood.) Rosiglitazone often is referred to as an "insulin sensitizer" because it attaches to the insulin receptors on cells throughout the body and causes the cells to become more sensitive (more responsive) to insulin. As a result, more glucose is removed from the blood. At least some insulin must be produced by the pancreas in order for rosiglitazone to function-.

Avandia (rosiglitazone) is one of the latest drugs to control diabetes.
It works by sensitizing muscle and fat cells to accept insulin more
readily. They also lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels with the added benefit of lower blood pressure and lower glucose production. And added advantage is that it does not cause hypoglycemia like some other diabetic medication. It may cause some side effects such as headache and fatigue.
Overall it has shown to be a promising drug but it is not a cure. The patient still has to make lifestyle modifications such as weight and food management to control the progession of the disease. Hope that helps and do consult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.

I've seen patient do very well when taking Avandia to control their blood sugar. Remember to check your blood glucose often, keep a record of the results, and bring it with you when you go to see your doctor.

avandia, actos, glucophage, and other oral diabetes meds lower the blood glucose levels by opening the cell receptors to allow the glucose and insulin in, and by assisting in the regrowth of the pancreatic beta cells. avandia can cause weight gain in some ppl.
