Take her back to the doctor ASAP. When you took her to the doctor, it could have just been the start of what she has. Each day that passes, the illness has had time to get worse and make the cough get worse. Call the doctor in the morning or if you are concerned, take her to the ER.
I took my daughter to the doctor on a Monday for her cough. He said it was just a cold. By Thursday, she was back at the doctors and it was pneumonia.
Your childs cough could be asthma, bronchitis, reflux, croup or even pneumonia. If the cough syrup isn't helping, something more is going on. Plus imagine how she is feeling. Her tummy muscles have to be hurting as does her throat from all the coughing.
Do what you can to make her comfortable for the night. Vicks on her chest (if she is old enough for it), a vaporizer, propping her up with pillows, taking her into a steamy bathroom, taking her into the cold night and maybe getting her to drink something warm.
Good luck and I hope she feels better very soon!!

She needs a different medicine. Cough syrup is generally useless. it's a temporary fix untiol you can see th edoctor. the only reason an adult uses a copugh syrup like vicks or nite quil is because it makes you sleep at night.
Have her to (if she is old enough) goggle out her throat wiht luke warm water lightly salted . if she can't have her drink a small amount of salted water. salt will do more for her cough than cough syrup unless it's strong enough to put her to sleep.
she probly needs predsone and moxeillian(I think that is how you spell it.) . It's about the only thing that will knock out a cold.
But doctors will try anything first as it is feared that eventually there will be no anti-bodies which will work on us.
Give her plenty of water and fruit juices.
A vaporizer would help her. they are pretty inexpensive at walmarts

i just went through this with my daughter a week ago she is 7. her coughing became so hard and intense she started coughing up blood. unfortunatly all you can do is give her cough syrup. run a vaporizer, put her in the bathroom while the showers on so she can breathe in the steam. mayb if you let her breath in cold air from outside it may help. it all depends on the "type" of cough she has. i gave her cough medicine vapo rub and used a cough spray. none worked really well ...it just had to run its course. i know how you feel totally helpless. good luck shes totally fine now ....no cough. but if she has other symptoms then i would call the doc again

This is one of my doctor that give me a very good piece of advise where is of good to you; that is take 3 days of medicines and you should see the improvement or recovering of the illness, otherwise should there is no change or worst condition then you better change or see the doctor again.

cure it without the cough syrup
try dicing carrots(make sure they are really thin) and putting that in some organic honey, give it to her to eat, that should work, it worked for me last time i got a bad cough
oh, and of course you have to do it for at least a few days in order for it to work
