hi, in regards to setting a table for a sit-down dinner in a cocktail party theme, im lost for ideas. im having fancy cocktail glasses and cocktail umbrellas, but am not sure what else i can do. im thinking perhaps of theme colours of pink/orange/lime green. is there anything i really do with the rest of the table? should i rim the cocktail glasses in sugar or salt, or leave as is? im serving two cocktails for the meal part of the evening - sex on the beach and margaritas, which will be on the table in jugs. anything special i can do with the ice-cubes? im also wanting to give each guest when they arrive, an item to wear and then keep (eg. every female is given beads to wear for the evening). any ideas what i can use for this? i was wanting to give something for the men and the women, but keep it fairly cheap. thanks for all your help

Something that i saw at a cocktail party recently was in the old style clear glass coke bottles, with coloured water (water and food colouring) with a coloured (fake or real) flower, all down the table, just brightened things up.

Rim the glasses if you like, I sometimes find that that becomes a little fiddley when you have guests around and a thousand other things to do,

No idea about the ice cubes, i guess you could colour them if you want,

I like the whole pink, orange & lime greem color scheme. You could go with leis in those colors for both men and women. Another suggestion would be to buy some inexpensive martini glasses (think Dollar Tree) and pour colored, scented candles in the martini glasses, and set one at each place setting. Encourage your guests to take them home at the end of the evening. You could also buy some really pretty drink coasters for each place setting. I have seen these very inexpensive at Dollar Tree (four for 1.00). I like the sugar & salt rimmed glasses. You can get the colored, flavored sugar and salt in small tins at Target.

As far as ice cubes - you could either freeze strawberries, lemon and lime slices in the ice, or you can freeze the ice in molds- these would be really pretty in your drinks.

simple is best
Can the umbrellas and salted/sugared glasses.
Don't do the color theme thing
Be simple, elegant: White flowers, white candles, white napkins.
You'll turn more heads with elegance than with colorful geegaws
