I'm a 29 year old female that is on hormone replacement therapy. I've been to the hospital recently and he told me and my fiance that I am at a great risk of getting blood clots because of the HRT and because I smoke about 2 packs of cigs a day. He also told us what the symptoms to look out for like leg pains and chest pains. I have developed both but my question is this Where in your leg does a blood clot usually begin to form. Please help me.

Most clots form at a place where blood flow is either impeded by some sort of constriction or narrowing of the blood vessels.

Towards the feet, circulation may not be great to start with - especially for someone living with diabetes for example. Id addition if you are seated a lot, then deep vein thrombosis can also become an issue.

Has he suggested that you perhaps take half or a whole asprin each day? If nt, it may be worth asking him if he might recommend this. It DOES help to prevent premature clotting.

Blood clots usually form in the veins of your legs and pelvis. If you develop unilateral leg pain, swelling, redness, go the hospital immediately!

As far as chest pain, any sort of discomfort you have been having should be discussed with your doctor.

Honestly, the best thing you can do to help prevent clots and future adverse cardiovascular events (peripheral vascular disease, heart attack, stroke, ischemic/thrombotic emboli) is to QUIT SMOKING!

You can do it! You doctor would love to help you quit when you're ready.
