Planning a surprise party at work - what do you think is most popular or what's your favorite? Nothing fancy, just the more or less normal sort of desserts that can be bought or easily prepared. The honored person likes cheesecake - but how popular is that compared to something like chocolate cake or a bowl of ice cream? Is there a favorite flavor for cheesecake - strawberry, plain, pineapple, mocha...? I don't know! I'm opinionated too, maybe wrongly, but it seems to me more women than men like cheesecake - is this true?

I agree with one of the other answers...if the honored person likes cheesecake, then you should do something with cheesecake, as it is all about him/her. An option for you might be to make "mini" cheesecakes. These are super simple to make. I don't have the recipe on me, but you can find it at www.nabisco.com. Basically, you place a vanilla wafer on the bottom of a mini-cupcake liner, add a spoonful of cheesecake batter, bake, and top each mini with a dollop of canned cherry pie filling. They look absolutely gorgeous and really made a beautiful desert plate teamed with brownie squares. As far as women liking cheesecake more than men...I personally never found that to be true at the office. Whenever I brought cheesecake in for a party, the women...while they loved it, too...lamented over the calories, while the men simply dove in and didn't speak another word until the cheesecake was completely devoured! At least they didn't talk with their mouthes full!! :) Hope this helps!

Cheesecake is good - so is regular cake, cookies and cupcakes. Personally, I'd try and stay away from ice cream since it can melt all over the place.
I'd suggest plain cheesecake and a few sides of toppings so people can customize their own piece.

Well if the b-day person likes cheesecake, get him/her cheesecake, who cares what the guests like? If not, serve some brownies or have a plate of varieties of cookies as well with the cheesecake. Chocolate chip, macadamian nut and white chocolate chip, snickerdoodles, oreos, thin mints, the list goes on.
Original cheesecake tastes great with some strawberries and strawberry syrup on top. They have a huge variety of cheesecakes at Cheesecake Factory, Google it for it's website.

Starbucks sells an incredibly deluctible White Chocolate Rasberry Cheesecake with a chocolate cookie crust. Pretty big too, just special enough for a party. That'd be my pick!

Find a way to find out what dessert is the birthday person's favorite.
I usually try to have a casual conversation with one other person present to find out. Like "hey george I'm really craving a pineapple cake right now? what's your favorite dessert?" The birthday person will gladly let you know thier favorite too.
Then Bring what they like.
