Type II diabetes: possibly if you eat so much that is causes you to become over weight.
Type I diabetes: ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! Type I diabetes is caused by the Beta cells in the Islets of Langerhans dying or not being able to produce insulin as a result of cellular damage or from them being attacked by the body's own immune system, it has absolutely nothing to do with diet and almost all to do with heredity and genetics.

Oh for the love of god people if you're all diabetics and giving out information like this then I hate to think how you were educated.

Eating sugary foods is not a precursor to diabetes to Type 1 diabetes.

Being overweight is NOT always going to mean you are going to get diabetes. There are other causes such as PCOS in women that may cause you to become insulin resistant. Damn, I weigh 63kg and I'm a Type 2, work that out!

Despite what people are told losing weight does not reverse diabetes or I'd be sitting here eating a block of chocolate.

Educate yourselves before you misinform other people and make yourself look stupid.

The overweight thing, totally idiotic. Us fit people get diabetes all the time, its genetic, that being said most people control Type II or borderline type II with stricter diets and I know some who swear by weightlifting and any physical activity, keeps all sugars in food processing, not just sugary foods. There are sugars in anything that has carbs as well.

The short answer is no, you can't get type 2 diabetes from consuming sugar. Having said that, a diet with lots of junk food full of fat, carbs, and processed sugar combined with a sedentary lifestyle, being overweight, and/or genetic predisposition can bring on type 2 diabetes. If you eat too many sugary things, it's a possibility. These are also just some of the symptoms that cause Diabetes...
Extreme thirst, peeing a lot, and hurting feet.

No, you most certainly may not. That was your body telling you that you need a LIFE change, not just a temporary change to continue the same bad habits. You have done an excellent job in getting your blood sugar back to safer levels, but you should consider that the beginning of the rest of you r life when it comes to how you consume food. There are many ways to still get the rewarding benifits of sweet treats, and less oily versions of the foods you love. I would suggest taking a trip tp Borders books or getting on the web and taking advantage of the web and getting yourself some reallly great new recipes in your recipe box. Take heart, life isn't over, its merely changed a bit. Blessings!

You will most certainly increase your chances by having a diet heavy in sugar. Most of that sugar is from processed foods. American food manufacturers have put huge amounts of sugar in so many different foods, it helps to label read when your at the store.

But its just like smoking, some people can smoke 30 years and say, "See look at me, smoking DOES NOT, cause cancer." But then 3/4s of the people that smoke that long will more than likely come down with some smoking related ailment.

So, if your diet includes lots and lots of processed sugar and you maintain that for years, yes you will increase your chances of getting diabetes. Don't forget regular exercise will moderate this risk. Regular, vigorous exercise is the closest thing we have to the fountain of youth. It mitigates poor eating, smoking and drinking habits.

You can get Type 2 diabetes from eating too much sugar, and not getting enough exercise, and being obese. Type 1 diabetes is not related to food intake. Both types of diabetes have bad affects on your heart, blood vessels and nerves.
