I stopped eating pork about a month ago. I thought that I could be content just eating chicken, fish, and beef, but yesterday, I was eating a cheeseburger and when I got down to the last few bites I found myself staring at the burger. All I could hear was "mooooo". I could see the cow blinking it's big eyes at me. I'm not crazy and my food doesn't usually look at me, but right then I decided that I didn't want anything that once had eyes in my mouth or in my stomach. If it had parents, I can't eat it!! I don't want to say that I'm a "vegetarian", but I really don't want to eat any meat. It seems gross. I'd like to know how some other people decided to become vegetarians and how it has benefited them.

Just do what you feel is right for you. Not everybody has to share their reasons for being "vegetarian" or vegan. If you want to follow an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet you can still enjoy dairy and eggs and such but you just would steer clear of any type of animal flesh. This is entirely attainable and you simply don't have to discuss your eating choices with anyone - if they ask just tell them you're not happy with the label of being a vegetarian as you're not entirely sure you want the responsibility of living as a labelled vegetarian and one day, you may want to eat meat again. That way, if you're not calling yourself 'vegetarian' then you can't be seen to be hypocritical should you choose to return to meat.

Don't call yourself a vegetarian until you have decided that you never want to eat any meat, including fish, ever again. That's when you're a vegetarian.
It's lovely that you were compassionate enough to realize that what you were eating was once a living, breating pain-feeling animal. However, will there be a time when you are presented with some delicious-looking piece of meat and not be able to turn it down? You have to be SURE this is what you want. I have been vegetarian 7 years and a vegan almost a year, and I LOVE it. It's the best ethical, environmental, and health choice I have made.
I decided to switch when I learned about horse slaughter years ago. Although I never ate horse, I was disgusted by the way they were slaughtered and the fact that we as people could slaughter an animal on whose back we built western civilization. And the thought I had was "If that's what they do to a beloved pet animal, I can't imagine what they do to cattle, pigs, chickens.."
Knowing that meat is animal is not enough. You HAVE to educate yourself about the horrific lives they lead before being slaughtered in disgusting and cruel ways. You have to know the WHOLE truth. You need that truth in your mind so that if something tempts you, you don't think "well, a little wont hurt". A little WILL hurt.
Watch the video "meet your meat" (type it into google or something to see) and read as much as you can. There are lots of good books about it.

And good luck! You've already made the most important step. You are doing the RIGHT thing, don't listen to what anyone else says. You don't need meat! Read up on nutrition so that you can be well educated and know what you need to eat!

Why would you not want to say that you're a vegetarian? There is nothing wrong with it...

If you don't eat meat, then... well, you're a vegetarian! And, just because you're a vegetarian doesn't mean you have to automatically sign up for PETA and protest.

I became a vegetarian over 2 years ago just as a test of willpower, just to see if I could do it. And, I've never felt better. Along the way I started reading books, and looking at websites, and all the other sources of "Vegetarian Propaganda" and ya know what... it all made sense. I mean, if you can make better choices for your life and body, and at the same time help make things better for animals and the world..., why not?

I lost weight, I have more energy, my skin is clearer... I feel great!

Good Luck in your journey, should you choose to travel that path... Remember Vegetarian is not a "4 letter word".

Try not to get hung up on labels. People here like to preach at you about what you have to do to be a REAL vegetarian, but it's your body, and you can eat what you want. You don't have to fit in any preset category.

I try to avoid the labels by saying, "I don't eat meat" rather than "I am a [something or other]."

Getting off the standard diet of decaying animal flesh will benefit you, no matter whether you find a label that suits you or not. It's what you eat that matters, not what you call yourself. Congratulations on a major step forward.

As for me, purely by chance I had no meat for a month. Then I went out and bought some chops and was really looking forward to eating some meat, but when I put it in my mouth, it just tasted dead, and I spit it out. I tried to eat meat a few more times at other people's houses, but it was so disgusting, that I just started saying, "I don't eat meat." That all happened in 1979, by the way., and I'm still saying it

i think you're mistaken. people in Indiaa do not assume egg is meat. Atleast my high quality buddy does not and neither does her loved ones. and they are very indian-ish relations. in truth they even with the actuality that follow an same custom they wouldd in the adventure that they were in India. Which i honesltly experience is amazingly cool. Anway. i imagine you recommend jains. it really is a faith that originated in India. they don't devour eggs. once you concentration on that they don't devour nutrients that comes from animals. Which i evaluate is nice. i'm guessing back contained in the historic days eggs were type of unknown. except they did understand again and again babie chickens got here out of those eggs. so as that they suggestion that eating became once obviously killing those children. i imagine thats what befell now not sure although. yet Indians do devour eggs once you concentration on that each and each and every time i will my acquaintances residence they typically make this egg curry. it really is so wonderful. besides decrease back on your question. sure egg is a meat. in spite of the indisputable fact that its not this kind of meat vegetarian stands for. once you experience vegetarian you assume; men and women those who do not devour animals for, well being motives or animal cruelty. No animals have change into damage once you devour eggs. suitable? So obviously egg is a vegetarian meat. Haha

My best friend and I used to run everyday, we lived close to the country and we would go by a farm everyday, the cow that was there was really sweet and used to come to the fence to be pet. One day we went running and the cow was not there, we asked the guy in the Field were the cow was and he laughed and said it had gone to market that day and we'd be eating him for dinner soon...now if that doesn't make you think about being a vegetarian, I don't know what does. I was a vegetarian for three years, but then I realized I missed meat. I eat it every now and then, but I am very picky about where the meat comes from.

well, i come from a family of vegetarians, and i ate chicken and fish till i was about six. I stopped when i saw this person strangle a chicken for dinner. that was a horrible expereince. and my mom always said that your stomach isnt a cemetary - so you shouldnt eat anything that was killed.
so thats my benefit, knowing that nothing was killed for my dinner. im not a lobbyist or anything and i dont care if someone else eats meat in front of me, and i dont even freak out if i eat by accident. i just like knowing that i dont intentionally eat something that was born and had parents.
so good luck with going vegetarian - and one more thing, there's no point if you crave nonvegetarian foods all the time while you let go of meat.

I stopped all at once when the numerous reasons all came together for me. It's been 20 years and I can't imagine ever going back. If you don't want to say you're a vegetarian, don't; you don't have to call yourself anything at all. Just don't eat meat if you think it's gross and there you go.

PLEASE see a Doctor. You may not be crazy but you may be sick (like a Virus or a Disease) or you may be stressed out.

I have had similar feelings before, but I think back to the times I was starveing and know others are starveing,... and realize the animal is already dead so there is nothing you can do,.. they will keep dieing.

I have looked into animals and the kinds that tend to be categorized as "prey/pray" do not suffer. The way their brains are set up, they have done research,.. and for example if you shot a deer with a Silencer and it were dieing while surrounded by it's friends, family,.. other deer... those Deer have no triggers for this. When that happens they don't know, their minds are not set up that way. Then as long as the Deer is still (and not startleing the others by being something jerking around) the other deer will just walk on it and nibble around it and eat off it,.. and check it for more plants to eat.

Of the animals you listed, the Chickens are probably the smartest if that tells you anything. BTW, there are some humans born with mental disorders so they have the same... brain processing as Cows or Horses (they are not the same but some people are one and some are the other). One woman with this form of "Autisim" works with Cows and Horses, she is VERY GOOD with cows & horses and recognized because she is so great (not because of her Autisim). She explains things. Pretty much don't get in her/their eyes, don't flash things, and make the death swift because Death isn't scary but being poked at and screamed at makes her/them go wackey because they can't handle it.

I decided to become a veggitarian when I heard about some of the abuses that occur in places like slaughter houses. It really put things in perspective for me to think that not only was my KFC chicken meal once alive, but that it was most likely badly abused and kept in awful conditions before hand. It feels good to know that I'm not supporting that. I also hate the idea that the stuff on my plate may have had a long life ahead of it if it had been in the wild.
