I believe that vegetarians eat eggs and other dairy. It is the Vegans who do not eat anything that comes from an animal in any way. I have heard some people say they are 90% Vegan (whatever that means).

No! As a woman, I produce an egg every month and loose it during my period - that doesn't mean that I loose a baby every month - the egg is not fertilised! The same happens with hens, so don't worry, you're not killing a chicken by eating an egg. Vegans don't eat eggs but that's because they don't eat anything that comes from an animal.

If you are a vegetarian for the reason that you don't want to hurt animals, then yes; you are being hypocritical if you eat an egg. There are some vegetarians that just don't want to eat animal fat and they are vegetarians for healthy reasons. Yet, they will eat an egg; and there are some people that call themselves vegetarians and they will eat fish.

Not if the egg is unfertilized. That would be like mourning every period a girl has because it's an unborn baby -- that doesn't make sense. A period is a period because it's UNfertilized (otherwise it'd be a miscarriage!).
So I think vegetarians view eggs as periods, which makes them OK to eat. Commercially produced eggs come from farms with no roosters around to inseminate them.

No the eggs are not fertilized, but the male chicks are killed in egg producing breeds, as they are not required. I have no argument with meat eaters, but what disturbs me is the cruel way many animals are kept alive in horrible conditions before they are killed. Chickens get a real raw deal, the broilers are really young birds forced to grow very big by antibiotics, and though the battery cage system is being slightly improved, it will still be very cruel.

No, what it means it that you are displaying your ignorance of the biology of poultry.
An egg is not an unborn chicken, a hen needs to be fertilised by a cockeral to lay an egg that is capable of producing life.
An unfertilised egg is no more capable of producing a chicken that the menstrual waste of a woman is capable of producing a baby..
The definition of a veggie is that they don'e eat meat. fish or poultry or any deriviatives that require the death of the animal. it does not exclude dairy. Some veggies choose to exclude dairy.
"PhD"..really, i doubt it, did you get it through the post, or are you dilibrerately using false logic to appear stupid ? Veggies don't eat meat because they don't want to be responsible for the death of an animal. killing insects underfoot is regretable, but unfortunately a fact of life. using extremes to argue a point is usually a sign that normal logic doesn't work to explain your point of view.

I sincerely hope none of the eggs I eat have been fertilized.
But the question brings up what to me is an interesting thought. It's all about Right To Life, abortion, etc.
Isn't 'preventing' life almost, if not equally sinfull in the eyes of those vehemently opposed to abortion as abortion itself, who take the position that it 'kills'.?
If that has any merit - contraception is a no-no and saying,'No', or even 'Not tonight, Honey' is a major ix-nay, n est ce pas?

NO!!!!! LMAO the Unborn chicken is already dead!.!!. just try this and tell me wat happens
STEP 1: Prepare the nest with lots of bedding in a quiet, dark area of the shelter.
STEP 2: Place eggs (8 to 10) under the hen or in the nest when she's feeding.
STEP 3: Check to see if she's going to "set" eggs. Remove her a few times and see if she returns to nest.
STEP 4: Provide feed and water close to the nest.
NOw if that egg u wont eat hatches then yes but if it doesnt ove a year then no

I'm not sure, but I don't eat eggs. They're all slimy and disgusting. I get nauseous even when I think of them. Some vegetarians eat eggs, but I chose not to.
