A toaster is a good way. If you don't have one of those you can bake bread in the oven until crispy.

I suppose that if you HAD a toaster you wouldn't be asking this question!!
Do you have a grill? If you do, it's also very simple - you just grill each side, watching all the time because you don't yet know how fast the bread will burn.
If you don't have a grill or toaster, do you have a gas fire or natural fire? If so, you can put the bread on a toasting fork - any 2 or 3 pronged fork with a long, heatproof (i.e. wooden) handle is okay. Hold the bread close to the fire, maybe 1 or 2 inches away, depending on how fierce the heat is. Keep an eye on it, and don't let it get INTO the flames though!! (This is the most traditional way, but it's easy to get blackened toast by accident - mainly because the side of bread being toasted is facing AWAY from you so you can't SEE it!!)
If you don't have that either ... maybe I'd recommend that you buy a toaster...!!!

All around the Country and Coast, people always say what do you like most?, I don't like to brag, I don't like to boast, I always tell them: I like toast! YA TOAST! I get up in the morning about 6 am, have a little jelly have a little jam! Take a piece of bread, and put it in the slot, push down the lever till the wires get hot, I get toast! YA TOAST!Now There's no secret to toasting perfection, there's a dial on the side and you make your selection, push to the dark or light and then, if it pops to soon, push down again, make TOAST! YA TOAST! When the first cave man drove in from the drags, he didn't know what would go with the bacon and the eggs,he must have met a genius and got in his head, plug the toaster in the wall by the bed, MAKE TOAST! YA TOAST!

Plug in the toaster. Open a loaf of bread and remove two slices of bread. Place the bread into the toaster, one slice into each toaster slot. Press down the toaster lever until it holds. While your bread is becoming toast, unwrap a stick of butter and take a swipe with your knife. While you are holding that in your left hand, grab a plate from the cabinet with your right hand. By now, the toast has jumped out of the toaster. Carefully, grab the toast and toss it onto the plate and quickly spread the butter on the toast. Put knife down. Pour yourself some milk and enjoy!

Basic toast? Just take two slices of bread, put them into the toaster. Set it for how dark or light you want the toast. Push the handle down and leave it, till the toast pops up. Then butter it, smoother it with cream cheese, or whatever you want- even a hazlenut spread. Gooey, messey but tasty that spread is on toast!

Oh, lordy, there "lucyanddesi" what a moron you are! FIRST things FIRST, eh? You get the bread FIRST! THEN you set fire to the neighbor's house!!!!!
OH and just for you, "jazz_devotee," down here in Mexico we have just what you are looking for! It is ready made toast, pre-made and pre-packaged. It comes in packages just like "raw" bread does, just for YOU! And do you know the very best thing of all? The brand name of the company that makes it, is "BIMBO!" (Just so YOU won't have ANY trouble finding it.....)
(And NO I am NOT making it up, down here in Mexico a company called "BIMBO" actually DOES make pre-packaged toast! This gem has acrtually made it onto the Leno and Letterman shows.......)

Put some butter on bread (either one side or both, your preference) and grill it in a skillet over medium heat until golden. It's very good this way.
I don't like using the toaster because you have to put the butter on afterwards. I like my butter to be cooked in the toast.

first build a campfire then bend a hanger (try not to use platic) so it will hold a piece of bread. Place the bread on the bent hanger gently hold about 6 inches above the hot coals for about 30 seconds then turn over (the toast) and repeat

Put slices of bread into a toaster & push the button down.
Put butter or garlic butter or cinnamon butter etc., on slices of bread on a cookie sheet and broil them under the broiler rack in the oven for a few minutes. Watch closely because they're easy to burn that way.
