What's a good theme for a dinner party? Anything besides holiday stuff.

I like to use the cuisine of different countries as a theme. For instance: you could do a "Moroccan" theme (or Mexican or Italian, Chinese, Greek, etc.) and decorate the table accordingly. Also serve food and a "special" cocktail from that country before dinner along with a CD of music that reflects the culture. You could even offer small 'party favors' that carry the theme as well. You might actually have fun learning about and researching recipes for that particular place......of course, once you decide on the country you could always come back here to ask for recipes.

How fun!! There are so many ideas...

I think 50's and 60's theme would be fun. Everybody can come in character : girls- bobby socks, poodle skirts and pony tails. Guys-jeans, white tshirts with cigarettes rolled up in the sleeve, slicked back hair, etc...
Food would be ice cream shakes or floats, burgers and fries. You could decorate retro...
OR
Oriental theme : make any types of chinese foods (or order out) wontons, egg rolls, fried rice, whatever you like,
Have every body come in costume : girls - geisha dolls with white faces, or floral robes and fans. Guys- samurai warrior with swords and all, drawn on mustache etc...
OR
Mexican Fiesta theme : any mexican foods, tacos, nachos, burritos, enchiladas...
Dress with sombreros and maracas, panchos and mexican dresses and such.

You could even go royal...kings, queens, princes, princesses, jesters, bards, etc...
Make cornish hens (1 for everyone) and potatoes and wine...

Whatever you choose, don't forget the music to go with the theme!! And have fun!
