Fish bowls. Swedish fish suspended in blue jello. Drop swedish fish into jello after it starts to set.
Dirt. Mix pudding with whipped cream. Cover with Oreo cookie crumbs and decorate with Gummi worms.
Sand. Vanilla yogurt, mixed with cool whip, cover with graham cracker crumbs, decorate with candy eggs and call them turtle eggs.
Polar bear cups. Ice cream with a layer of your choice of candy, m&m's, or kisses, or peanut butter chips like you put in cookies, covererd with cool whip, and decorated with gummi bears. Kids, and adults for that matter, go nuts over these three, and they are simple as sin to put together. You can buy cheap clear plastic cups, and make individual servings. That seems to get more attention than one big vat that everyone shares. Kids like to have their own.
My Mom used to make tiger tails. Pilsbury biscuits ripped in half, rolled into "tails" put "stripes" of american cheese over the tails and bake until tails are cooked, and cheese is melted.
Check your library for cookbooks for kids.
Hope I helped. Have fun.

How about:
Pigs in a blanket (Vienna sausages or cocktail weiners wrapped in biscuit dough [Bisquick or canned Pillsbury biscuits] and baked according to directions for the biscuits.
Ants on a log (celery stuffed with peanut butter or Cheese Whiz, with raisins scattered on top)
Never tried it, but I've heard of cupcakes being baked in flat-bottomed ice cream cones instead of in cupcake papers ... only filling them about 1/3 full, so when they bake, they still have room for a scoop of ice cream on top. SOUNDS good, but you'd need to try it ahead of time to be sure it would work!
Grilled cheese or peanut butter or jelly sandwiches cut into little triangles.
Baby carrots with a pitted olive stuck onto each end = Barbells.
Pretzel sticks stuck into cubes of cheese or summer sausage.
Pizza (cheese, pepperoni, hamburger), cut into small (3"-4") pieces.
Bananas cut into halves or thirds, pushed onto little craft sticks, frozen, and dipped into that chocolate that hardens.
The main thing is to keep it simple ... nothing too exotic. It will be easier on YOU, and the kids will like it better.
Hope you all have a great time Sunday, especially the birthday honoree!

How about a taco party, with alot of different fillings and condiments. You would be surprised at the time it takes for 6 year olds to make the perfect taco..and what they put on them as well...works for vegetarian kids as well as the meat eaters

How about homemade chex mix? Once you coat everything and whack it in the oven, you only have to stir it every 15 minutes while you do other things.
