I agree that every six months is a good idea. If you are sexually asaulted, have a suspicion that your significant other is cheating, or change sexual partners, a test is also good idea after any of those. Also, even though you want to check it every six moths, don't hesitate, because you might have one and spread it unintentially. Remeber, many STD's are asymptomatic...
