Absolutely. Millions of people have genital herpes and have perfectly normal healthy children. Herpes does not affect the sperm or the fertility of the man.

If a man does have herpes it is very possible he can spread it to his partner when they are trying to conceive. Since the couple obviously needs to have unprotected sex in order to conceive, it is very possible that the woman can contract genital herpes from him. Remember, genital herpes can be spread whether the person is having an outbreak or not. That's how I got it!

If the women does contract the virus there is a chance she can pass the virus down to the baby during birth. Herpes is contracted, not genetically inherited. If the mother is currently having an outbreak when the baby is coming through the birth canal during birth the baby can contract the virus from rubbing against sores the mother has. Doctors sometimes suggest a C-section, especially if the mother is having an outbreak. Passing herpes to a child is REALLY rare though. I've read it's a less than 1% chance the baby will contract the virus.

Herpes does not affect your reproductive function. It just makes sexual contact a means of transmitting the disease. Particularly if you are having a herpes breakout. Herpes has been around for a long long time (Like BC long time) and we are still around, so it is not lethal. It's just uncomfortable.
