I'm trying to find the most vegan birth control besides hysterectomy, abstinence, condoms, or IUD. Of course, hormonal ones are tested on animals.
Am I completely out of luck? I'm thinking about herbal options, perhaps?

This is *really* weird but it worked for the ten years my first wife and I were together (those fertile teen/twenty years too). The Dr.Bronner liquid soap bottles used to have instructions for "Essene Birth Control". You cut a thin skinned lemon in half, squeeze the juice, seeds etc. and use the lemon half as a diaphragm. After sex remove the lemon 'diaphragm' and douche with 1qt. water and a dash of his soap. The label explained that the acidity of the lemon (along with the physical barrier) followed by the potassium salts of the soap prevent conception. Like I said it really worked since we both had kids later with our second spouses. We were doing this in those 'bad old' days of pre Roe Vs. Wade and the only legal (semi legal) birth control was rhythm method or condoms (with a doctors prescription in our state). The only herbal options that I am aware of are those herbs that induce abortion and have *nasty* side-effects!

Like I said up top, this does sound really weird but I know it works and is totally vegan and organic. BTW; we knew of other couples that were doing the same and no-one had unplanned kids.

Oh! MIS, back in 'the day' the only vegetarian (I don't think the vegan term had been invented yet) hippies with tons of rug-ratz were the ones that wanted them! In those days a common reason for couples to have kids was to keep daddy out of Vietnam (ask Dick Cheney about this)(I know of at least 10 kids born for this reason). The only hippie types around today would be the rainbow nation (or is it children) types who have lots of kids because they want them!

I used to be vegan- I'm not anymore but unfortunately I think all of the hormonal pills are tested on animals.

I would say stick with the condoms and perhaps spermicides because as far as I know all home remedies, herbal options etc are not very reliable. That's why hippie vegans have so many babies lol. Sorry, I think it's true though.

Good luck on your quest!!!

I'm not Vegan but I am an RN

You can try cervical cap
diaphragm
rhythm (which my family mainly practices and my 2 siblings have been successful in 20 years of using it)
Condoms along with spermicides of VCF.

VCF (vaginal contraceptive film) is vegan and I've used it to great effect for 4 years. It's a film of spermicide you fold up and insert 10 minutes before sex, and it's effective for 2 hours if I recall correctly.

I live in the UK and here you can get vegan condoms from the Vegan Society, so you must be able to get them in the US.
