It's possible that the warts may have gone away, but he still may have the virus that causes them (HPV). It can take years sometimes for warts to show up. So during those years many people don't realize they have HPV and end up spreading it around to others.

There is NO cure for HPV. Even though most people are actually able to get rid of the virus, some will have it the rest of their lives. Since there is no test for men to detect HPV, it is basically impossible for him to know if he still has it or not.

Now that your friend has it, it is SO important for her to get a yearly pap smear done. The main concern with HPV is cervical cancer, which kills 4,000 women a year. It is the second most common type of cancer in women (after breast cancer). Pap smears are the best thing a woman can do to detect any early signs of cervical cancer, like abnormal cells on the cervix.

Good luck to your friend!

Yes the warts go away and the virus can take up to two years to break out for the first time...he may not have any more warts but he is still a carrier of the virus...no matter what kind of wart he had. And she has this virus for life now as well. Just because the warts go away doesn't mean anything...she's still infected and always will be.

Genital warts is an STD, caused by a virus present in bodily fluids. You're not going to get it from a wart on your hand. You can buy over-the-counter stuff to get rid of the wart, if it's bothering you that much.

The symptoms will go away but the viruses will reside in the nerve cells for the rest of one's life. It will come back when the immunity weakens. With proper treatment, genital wart outbreaks of usually can be controlled. However, the warts frequently reappear after treatment. Even after you have been treated for HPV, you may still infect others.

He may or may not have cheated on her. She may or may not have cheated on him. Genital warts are quiet and poorly visible infections and can have existed from previous relationships.

First priority, they both need to get treated.

Nope. You got 'em, you got 'em forever. Her sad luck. He could have had 'em for a long time. Tell him to keep his tally in his pants and her to go to the doctor then ditch his loser ***.
