Sorry for asking the same question twice. But It was lacking information and I don't know how to edit it.

I just want to learn. Yes which means is not going to happen, just learning to see if it's safe and possible.

Okay, she has HSV-1 but ONLY cold sores in her mouth. However, when the cold sores are gone and after a week we decide to have sex. Let's say, oral sex. Would I get it if we don't use a condom? Remember, she doesn't have cold sores in her mouth at that moment. It has been recovered. Only her mouth, nowhere else, but it's been recovered.

So if I play with her genital area I can get it even though there are no cold sores happening? And if she played with mine?

I'm learning, not doing. Thank you. Please answer as much as possible.

I don't need any information from sites. Because I've been there. Nothing helps me with my information. Also PIXXIE's response suprised me a little. But if I kiss her when she has cold sores I should get it. Unless you meant when she didn't have it. I think I understand everything now. However, if she gives me oral and her cold sores is healed and i'm not wearing a condom, would I get it?

Here's the deal:

It IS possible for her to spread herpes to you by giving you oral sex - whether she has cold sores present or not.

Herpes simplex virus 1 is typically cold sores, while herpes simplex virus 2 is typically genital herpes. I say "typically" because BOTH can cause BOTH genital herpes and cold sores. I've read that up to 30% of people with genital herpes have it from herpes simplex virus 1.

So, it is definitely possible for her to spread them to you by just simply kissing you or by giving you oral sex. And, if you do contract genital herpes from her, then you can pass that back to her causing her to have genital herpes also!

There is evidence that HSV-1 is transmittable even in the absence of active sores.

Chances are that if she has HSV-1 on her mouth, it is likely limited to her mouth, as the virus is lying dormant in the local nerves in that area, it is not generally swimming about in her whole body like Hepatitis or HIV would be.

You would be at risk having unprotected oral sex, yes. The risk would probably not be great if the sores are healed, but there would still be a risk of viral 'shedding.'

Also, the practice of oral sex has caused the two HSV strains to mix up a bit, and it is no longer strictly HSV-1 on the mouth and HSV-2 on the gential areas. Keep in mind that either strain can infect your skin, eyes, and hands/fingers as well. It is even possible for her to infect your genetalia by contact if she has recently touched her own mouth.

Basically: it is not safe, I would advise against it. Herpes never goes away. Ever. You do the math.

Yes you could definately get HSV-1 from intercourse. If your partner has HSV-1 (cold sore) on mouth and you have any type of injury or tear to the skin on or around your mouth / lips you are putting yourself at risk. Should you engage in oral sex with a partner that has HSV-1 you could contract that as well as have it develop into HSV- 2 . good luck.

I have them in my mouth and not vaginally. This is two completely different types.
I have had oral after and never passed it to my partner.
You can not catch it giving oral to her.
You can not catch it by kissing if she has a cold sore.
I'm 46 and I have had cold sores most of my life so I learned about the difference when i became sexually active.
Hope this helps. Hey and good for you for getting info

Herpes viruses are contagious. Contact may occur directly, or through contact with infected razors, towels, dishes, and other shared articles. Occasionally, oral-to-genital contact may spread oral herpes to the genitals (and vice versa). For this reason, people with active herpes lesions on or around the mouths or on the genitals should avoid oral sex (even kissing).
