I was having this discussion about people abusing drugs and stealing other people's inhalers for 'the high'. I would never let anyone touch my inhaler except for me. But How would it affect their bodies. I think there would be major heart problems because it makes one heart beat faster. But specifically, what does the medicine affect someone;s body if they dont need it and they dont even have asthma?

It will dialate their vessels and increase their heart rate. It isn't good for them...but unless they have a weak heart or some other illness...it probably won't hurt them. To me, I can't imagine my heart racing feeling like a good "high." Maybe they should just run around the block. Healthy alternative.

If you lend someone your inhaler, it will have the theraputic efficacy of dilating the bronchioles, which is the primary use of an inhaler. It will not do anything to the patient that a brisk walk or run would do, if they had a pre-existing condition.

Inhalers - usually salbutamol, otherwise known as ventolin are the most commonly used inhalers for acute asthma symptoms. This drug will not dialate blood vessels, as this is the opposite affect of shock. The blood pressure will be increased due to constricting blood vessels, and the heart rate will increase.

This happens because the salbutamol has efficacy on the b2 adrenergic receptors, and this causes a relaxation of the bronchal smooth muscle.

The only thing that would happen, if your friend were female and in active labor, is it would slow it down due to the relaxation of smooth muscle.

Getting a high from this drug wont work too well, likely they will just OD and have symptoms of tachycardia, muscle cramps, agitation, palpatations, headache, hypokalemia and insomnia.

One puff wont do any harm if somone is in need of this drug.

an albuterol inhaler will not give anyone a high...i have asthma...
the only way it could hurt them is if they have a heart problem...or they sit there and take way way more than the dose...and again, it would be their heart that would have the problems.
