I am a libertarian, and a vegan animal rights activist. I am active in several groups, and many of the people in these groups are conservative. I think that this misconception started because the animal rights movement started in the north and on the west coast, first. Of course, there are more liberal-minded people in these areas, so at first, there were more liberal vegetarians than not.
As more and more people become educated, and look at the evidence with an open mind, the movement to give up meat spreads. So, it would be as ignorant to say that all people from the west coast are liberal as it would be to say all vegetarians are liberal.

I'm definitely not liberal. I'm not conservative either -- I'm not libertarian, but most people think I am; I'm an objectivist -- politically a capitalist.
I am recently vegetarian strictly for my particular health reasons. I have no problem with anybody eating any meat they choose -- I just find it's not worth the consequences, despite the lust I have for a gravy-lobster-stuffed fillet Mignon.

I don't think so. I think people are vegetarians because they are liberal, and choose to change. People who are conservative wouldn't like change, and since vegetarianism is a change from the "traditional" way of eating meat, they would choose to stick to the non-change.

Yes, my daughter is a vegetarian and she is the most conservative person that I know. She is a republican through and through. She is a big time Bush supporter.

I've been vegan since age 10. I'm not a liberal...I'm a rational. It has to make sense in the books. Veganism makes sense. Policy based on theory or emotion or dreams--does not.

i would agree with you. i'm conservative, but not entirely vegetarian... although 80% of my diet is green/vegetable-like. i'll eat deer or buffalo once a week at MOST, and fish. that's about it, really.
