The kidneys can "spill" glucose..which just means your blood sugar is too high and the kidneys are filtering it out through urine...or they can spill ketones, something that should be of more concern, means you're not making enough insulin or very insulin resistant, the body breaks down fat and ketones are a by-product of that process and needs to flushed out of the blood, the kidneys to do that too. If your glucose is high AND you're spilling ketones this could lead to a serious condition called ketoacidosis....and it can also mean spilling protein. Kidneys are our bodies filters. If they're not working right one of the first signs is spilling protein. This is the first sign of kidney failure. All of this spilling shows up in urine. You might be able to smell sweet urine if you're spilling glucose. However, a meter tells you your blood sugar is high first. You can also buy urine strips at a pharmacy that you dip into urine to see if you're spilling ketones. You should have tests done, including urine, at least every year to check your kidney function.

hmmm the only thing i can think of is diabetes or hypertension, but im sure they would have checked your blood sugar levels when they did blood tests and im sure your annual check would have involved a blood pressure test. im 19 Female with hypertension im 5"5 and weigh 114 lbs, anaemic. Quitting smoking did really help, exercising and diet did also. since it has been a while, i would probably do urine tests again and check your kidneys, blood pressure and sugar levels. the positive thing is that really "everything is fine" except for the proteuria. I probably would see another doctor just o get a second opinion. Fatiigue can be due to the anemia or any other thing as simple as diet or improper sleep pattern, stress etc. dont think it an neccessarily cause a disease in the future as such. only thing that i can suggest is to re-do the tests with a different dooctor. you may find that you know longer have any protein or creatine in your urine. good luck!

I believe what you are referring to is keytones spilling over to the kidney. That is when sugar spills over. There is a keytone test that can be done to determine this. They check for sugar in the urine, much like when a woman is pregnant and has to drink that sugary drink then they check for gestational diabetes.

When you have diabetes, you have to much sugar in your blood. When you have WAY too much sugar in your blood, the sugar can spill over, or leak into, your kidneys. Therefore, you will get a urine test, and if there is sugar in the urine, they will have a way of knowing if you have diabetes. The symptoms of it is that you get really thirsty and you have to pee a lot, because it is your body's way of trying to flush that sugar out of your kidneys.

Diabetes will cause people to uriniate more often and
there is a sense of urgency to get to the bathroom.
People who try and 'hold it' ends up wetting themselves because their kidneys 'spilled over'. If
you suspet that you are experiencing this problem
please consult with your doctor. Diabetes left unchecked can cause strokes, heart disease and other
life threatning problems.

the "spill" you have heard mention if is not a liquid spill. People are referring to the kidneys having to filter out sugar from the blood, something they don't normally do, and the "spill" is referring to sugar passing from the blood to the urine. Urine is tested for this "spill" of sugar to monitor the control a diabetic has over his/her disease.
