It is bitterguord, used a lot in Asian(Chinese/Indian) cooking. Its Indian name is Karela. It is very bitter, but very good and used as a medicine for diabetic patients. Has got lot of other nutrients as well.

If you want to try eating it without much bitterness, wash it, deseed, slice thinly and rub some salt allover the slices. Then, keep aside for 15 minutes. Now, squeeze out the juice with your hands without disturbing the shape of the slices. Now, in a wok, heat some cooking oil and stir fry the slices along with your favorite spices and salt for taste.

(Now, will tell you a secret. It is my favorite vegetable, I have a lot of recipes using it)
