First and foremost, I am sorry to hear that your Mom's boyfriend is going though this. I am also sorry that you had to read some rude comments posted on here.

I am a diabetic and so was my Grandpa. My Grandpa had both of his legs amputated and he was able to adjust to life that way. He was one of the most stubborn men on the face of this earth, but he learned to adapt. I will say a prayer for your Mom' s boyfriend.

I am so sorry to hear all this. Unfortunately a lot of people with diabetes have their legs amputated. They have all kinds of scooters these days that make the patient pretty self sufficient. Hopefully your mom will not have to get him up and down ramps, she is pretty little. Have them look into the electric scooters if it comes down to him having his legs amputated.

A diabetic's legs can be discolored for a number of reasons.
He will need a course of IV antibiotics and a good assessment of his circulation.

Even if his circulation IS bad, he may not lose the legs unless there are non-healing ulcers.

If he loses only one leg, then after rehab, he may be able to get a prosthetic and walk relatively normally.

If he ends up losing both legs, then his prognosis is, unfortunately, not good. He may end up needing a nursing home.

Sorry to be depressing, but if a diabetic gets into trouble with his/her legs, the future can be pretty grim.

Good luck. I hope things work out.

Sorry, but your description of his condition sounds like Neuropathy. This is a complication of Type 2 Diabetes, and usually leads to amputation.

You are jumping the gun on this one. doctors will check his circulation in his legs using either CT or PET scan. They will check for blood clots which can cause this as well. Only when there is a total loss of circulation would they amputate.

There is a small chance that it can be saved, if they bring
needles in the legs so it can open the veins, for better blood circulation.
if it turns darker then chances are it will get amputated.
hope he gets well soon and doesn't get amputations.

Hard to say about amputation without seeing them. As far as his care, you would need to talk with the social worker at the hospital and see what assistance is available.
