When you’re eating hot and food and your tongue is burning, the worst thing you could do is drink a glass of water. Water opens up your tastebuds and they end up feeling the worse for it. Ginger ale does the same thing, but the fizz is surprisingly soothing.
The better solution is either any white flour-based bread, such as flatbreads - tortilla, paratha, naan - or dairy in the form of yogurt, buttermilk or sour cream. Milk is better for cooling your mouth after eating spicy food. Milk products contain casein, a protein that cleanses burning taste buds. Don’t use plain milk, as that’ll make your tongue glooey. (P.S.Most of the many spicy food eater I worked with said that hot drinks are good too in cooling the spiced-induced hotness in your mouth, but I haven't found a documented evidence for this yet bur as long as many approve of such idea then I think it makes some sense.)

What is best to “cool” the pungent sensation in your mouth? Water gives
immediate, but very brief, relief when it flushes away the free capsaicins
but leaves those that are hooked on to your taste/nerve receptors. But then
the hot sensation can actually feel more intense because the water rinses
away the other foodstuffs that had been diluting the effects of the
capsaicins. Starch foods, such as breads, mechanically remove some of the
capsaicins so they can help to reduce the pungency. But if you stop to
think about some very pungently hot ethnic dishes, you will notice that
most are served with sour cream or yogurt or other dairy product.
Traditionally, a few bites of the spicy hot food would be followed by a bit
of the cleansing dairy product. That way, the heat element can be enjoyed
and the other flavor notes within the food can follow. It is thought to be
the protein - casein - in dairy products which detaches the capsaicins from
your receptors and provides some relief.

If no dairy product is handy when you are in the mood for some hot peppers,
an alternative is to eat more peppers. Your nerve receptors will become
numb - after awhile!

My grandfather always told me to keep a little fresh bread and butter near me when eating spicy foods. The breads soaks up the spices.It works VERY well. I've tried milk before also. It's a very base drink (as opposed to being acidic) so it balances out the flavor a bit.

Something soft and porous to sop up the fine, hot oils in the food (like some bread or a tortilla) from your tongue. Then wash it down with milk or lemonade (lemon can strip away the hot oils while milk will pretty much just coat it).

Don't drink water it will only rinse out your mouth. You need to hold milk in your mouth for a count of ten then drink some more. My mother said that bread works well but I haven't had much luck with it. Hope I helped.

eating milk after eating warm nutrition is the terrific. Mythbusters examined all forms of issues that persons declare make it burn much less and milk became the only one that worked for each individual. Water might actually make it worse so do not try this.

Eat yougurt or drink "ariani" a milky drink made with
yougurt salt and water.

Sour cream works as well and that's the reason why many spicy Mexican dishes are served with a dollop of sour cream.
