I agree.. It is all about willpower. I smoked for a very long time.. and when I decided to quit.. I just quit.. I didn't try to wean myself off by smoking less and less every day.. I just stopped smoking.. stopped buying them.. and stopped feeding my addiction..
I suppose some people are just stronger and have more willpower than others.

I'm a smoker myself. I tried to quit many times. It's the withdrawal symptoms that suck. I get headaches, tremors, mood swings, upset stomachs, anxiety, high stress, and depression.

It's really hard to quit, especially when you smoke over a pack and a half a day. I've tried quitting cold turkey and weaning myself off but it never worked. Three months later I start back up. I think it is also a mental thing too. When I'm really stressed out or tired I tend to smoke more.

I want to quit. I really do, but I haven't found anything that really helps. My g/f has asthma and the cost of buying cigarettes are just unreal. I quit once for three months when my then wife was pregnant with our first child, but started back up after she was born.

It's not a hobby. It's not a habit. It's an addiction. Those that say, "just quit smoking" never lit a cigarette before. It's not that easy. If you were a smoker, you'd understand.

I am turning 41 next month, and I cannot breath normally anymore. My heart will not keep a regular rhythm. And I still smoke; now I can hear just what your thinking right now. Nothing I haven't pulled myself aside or laid in bed at night wondering why.

I started smoking at the age of 11 and have been doing it ever since. It's not normal for me not to smoke at this point. Without it I don't know what to do or how to act. And I can't say I don't enjoy smoking either.

There is a lot more than "Just Stop Buying Them". When I have tried to quit my family saw that I was visibly depressed and tortured. My wife said it was like she had all ready lost me.

Try an experiment sometime; stop showering, see how long you can go without one. You don't need it, do you? The way you will start to feel kinda close to what I feel like. You won't want to go out in public anymore, you feel uptight, disgusted at yourself. Only not smoking is still somehow worse the way it turns your own toughts against you. Now those who say that it gets easier with time, I think they lie just to get you to try. I have never seen any evidence of that in all the times I tried. Six months being the longest I ever made it.

So my family and I have all accepted that I won't be around forever, who does. God has all different ways of taking you back to him. Most of them gruesome and horrible.

I am just telling him how I want to go.

I am not a smoker, but I do know that it is extremely hard for most smokers to stop. It becomes a psychological thing. I have seen some actually have a panic attack at the thought of not being able to smoke. It is not just a hobby, it truly is a physical condition.

Have you ever smoked? for a sustained period of time? if not then you have no clue what you are talking about, have you ever struggled with an addiction of any kind? probably not if you are asking such questions. I have 6 wks not smoking, i quit cold turkey, yes it was one of the hardest things i have done, will i ever smoke again, maybe, why, its an addiction and sometimes people are weak, or strong, it all depends on how tough they are mentally, which as a smoker/ and drug addict i can say is what it comes down too. everybody has a different excuse

is there a thing that you're addicted? perhaps you find it hard too to easily give up on it. that's what smokers feel towards quitting smoking. it's an addiction and addiction means great interest in something to which a lot of time is devoted. you can't let go of the thing you become dependent on in just a snap.

You obviously have never smoked. To some people, that's like telling them to stop breathing. Basically, that's what happening when you smoke but, it can be almost a necessity in one's life. And, it's not a hobby. Most people who smoke, want to quit or have tried to quit. And, they know it's bad for them. You're not giving them any new information.
