I was going to say to you because they have been there, done it and written the book on it, but now I am not so sure...

OK then. Have you missed a little info out of your question? Is it that they want you to join the army or some such?

And is this career of yours legal? Maybe it is in the media?

Usually it the parents saying "Go forth and bring home copious amounts of salary and career prospects my son", so I am truly flummoxed.

Whatever you do in the end, you have to live with the consequences for the rest of your life. And just maybe they have seen what the consequences can be!

Parents only have your best interests at heart, if they think that your decision is wrong then they will tell you, but if you agree that sit down with them, talk to them and find out why they dont think you should do the thing you want to, its all about communication, trust and respect. They know what is right and wrong. If you explain the reasons for your decision then maybe you can come to an agreement. Dont go behind your parents back, that will hurt them. They care and worry.

Well thanks for the specifics there...... The answer does kind of rely on your age and the thing you don't want to do.... I mean.. what do you want to do? Obviously from your own point of view the best answer you are going to choose is going to be the one that says "No, You go your own way" but is that actually the best answer?

If you want to spend time at work before university then its up to you. If you want to beat up your neighbours' best friend's cat then bloody well listen to your parents.

Or try posting a sensible question.

It rather depends on the situation. If you're a thirteen year old who doesn't want to do the washing up, then yes you should just do it and stop moaning.

If you're a young adult who wants to work for a couple of years before/ instead of university, then the decision is ultimately your own.

It really depends on what they're telling you to do. A career is importiant. You can't rely on mommy and daddy forever to keep a roof over your head and food in your stomach. Time to be a big boy and make your own decisions about your future, you have to live it, not them.

Depends how old are you? If you are under 21 then yes as long as they don't have hobbies like safe cracking.
Honor your mother and father they have been where you are,you have yet to be where they are.
Hope that helps

You should listen to your parents as they have been through all the things you want to do before and also they are only trying to look out for you and your health etc so listen to what your parents say before you go and do anything stupid.

You shouldn't let others tell you what to do. It's important to listen to advise, but you must make up your own mind.

You should stand up to them - it's character-building, after all, to stand up to others!

Good luck

Yes you dam well should, parents set boundarys for their children because they know more of what the big bad world holds for you. They are not doing it to be horrible but to protect you!

Listen to your parents as they have your interests at heart. When you are 18 you should be able to make decisions for yourself but still keep consulting your pareents as they have life's experience to draw on
