It is amazing that someone would ask a question concerning a certain issue and would choose an answer that SATISFIES his desire...Is it the truth we want or deception and fantasy?

For example, some people asked questions like:

"Can someone show me why homosexuality is wrong without using the bible?"

And the asker chose an answer like:

"Who cares if you are gay or not.Just live your life happily with your sexuality. No one can please all people even if he is straight"

Obviously, the asker was not looking for the truth but for SOMETHING to comfort him...and the truth is that not all "comforting words are TRUE or helpful"

For example, if I tell a THIEF "Don't stress yourself,You are not at risk to be arrested if you steal...besides even police officers do crime."

While some of the words this false comforter spoke may be true( ."..besides even police officers do crime."), this still does not help the THIEF.

Please, note that this is a question!

Thanks

To deazone:

I doubt if you understood my question...Your not believing in the bible has tempted you to answer irrelevantly.

God bless you.

To Mooch

You do not understand the concept behind the example:

If someone asks a question: "Can someone prove to me that homosexuality is wrong without using the bible"...he MAY be believing that homosexuality is wrong and may be looking for reasons why it feels wrong to him OR he may NOT be believing that it is wrong thus trying to find out what on earth makes many people to cast out homosexuality in our communities.

Great question.
Some people ask questions with the hope that the reader will just agree with that person, thus validating his/her opinions.
When this doesn't happen, the writer gets upset, and feels attacked.
If I ask a question, I am looking for the most blunt ,honest truth that each responder has for me. They can be different, and I beleive they should be. Everyone has had their own experiences or opinions, and shares them.
It's good to even keep yourself in check on the home front. If I feel I may be over reacting to something, I'll ask my husband to let me know.
I read a question yesterday about "athiest being retarded and stupid>>' Now come on, why would someone put that out there if they didn't want some negative feedback??? This is an example of a person just looking to be heard and vent their ignorance, not someone looking for help with a question.

It's the great fallacy of most Questions ever asked.

Even in scientific research, when the facts are supposed to be the judge, often the disfavored facts are discarded as "oops" or "that just can't be right."
Previous perception always points to the desired answer.

Folks seem to have an uncanny need to be right.
Even me!
Sitting here, typing away like maybe, just maybe, i might have a clue what's in the hearts and minds of the person next door or down the street, or on the other side of the planet.

Personally, I try to look forward to being wrong on occasion...
(no matter how rare those occasions may be)
... just to remind me that there is so much in the world still to be learned.
Or next door.
Or down the street.

After all, what is life without something out there to learn?

Can we all say "BORING!"?

It is really a shame that we, as humans, tend to place that limit on reality.

I mean, imagine what we would discover if we gave up certain "I know it!" facts.
Maybe there IS life down in the deepest of oceans!
Maybe we CAN send words and sounds over a wire!
Maybe the world IS round!

Never know until you at least consider the answers you don't like.

Anyway, my not-so-humble opinion...

The opinions of the asker and the individual answerer bear some truth. The forum reflects perhaps more various aspects of truth. So, let individuals have more freedom of expression to increase the diversity of this beautiful forum. Comforting words are also very necessary and helpful to many souls.
If somebody asks: "How do you think about happiness?", then that asker chooses as best the answer: "I think you are very happy and you know well how it is." That would be fine. Another participant may give a 2-page long answer, and the asker may feel that it is not ok with his intention. That is fine too. Other participants on the forum may enjoy so much all sort of beautiful ideas in that 2-page answer. Still, it seems that truth always remains beyond man's reach.
You are free to express your views, and let the asker have complete freedom to express his/hers.

That would be because the truth is subjective.

Who is to say that "Who cares if you are gay or not.Just live your life happily with your sexuality. No one can please all people even if he is straight" isn't the truth?

I rather think that it is.

The real problem is with questions like "Can someone show me why homosexuality is wrong without using the bible?". Because it starts with a premise that homosexuality is wrong when in fact that need not be true at all.

For some people, truth is a great, softly growing orb. Far too immense for any one person to see the whole of it. Instead, there are an infinite number of tubes extending out in different directions and ending at different lengths, a soul at the end of each one. Well, really I only know one person who believes this. But he's adamant.

"Your" truth says they don't want to know the truth, because of the answer they chose as best. However they asked, and read all answers because it was important to them. Regardless of the forum here something inside of them is at work (line upon line, here a little there a little). The inner man reaches out to improve it's plite, but the man on the surface thinks he's in control.

I wonder that myself.Especially when they ask the question in the RELIGION section, and then don't like when they get responses from people using the Bible as an example when answering them. They don't like it proven that their behavior is wrong and that there are actually passages in the Bible that prove it.

I quite agree with you, i think most times people are trying to justify their actions not really searching for the truth. Therefore tend to be more comfortable with answers that suit their life styles.

People do not want to hear things that cast them in an unfriendly light. If someone puts down an answer that cushions their egos a little then that is what they will choose. That is human nature. Just like a woman will ask,"Does this dress make look fat?" Would you rather hear "No, you look beautiful in whatever you wear. " Or, "No the dress is fine, it's your butt that makes you look fat."
