The ages are determined by what is called the Procession of the Equinoxes which was known even in ancient times. The earth's axis is inclined 23 1/2 degrees. The northern axis currently points at Polaris in the Small Dipper. But this axis moves in a circle in the sky returning to the same point every 25,920 years. This is called the great year or platonic year [1] with each sign of the zodiac representing a great month of 2160 years. The movement of the equinox marks the transition from one month to the next. The ages process in the opposite direction than the zodiac is normally ordered.

The ancients understood the procession of the equinox[2] and to them the movement from one sign to the another represented the end of the world and the advent of a great prophet. The world was not the physical world but in the sky consisting of a square pointing out the four signs that would dominate in that age. For the age of Aquarius these signs are - Aquarius, Scorpio (also called the Eagle), Leo, Taurus.

Christ was the epochal messenger of the Age of Pieces. Prior to that it was the Age of Aries - age of Shepard and lamb, animal sacrifices. Hence Christ was known as the Good Shepard and the Lamb of God closing that age bring in the age of Pieces - fisherman of man. He also spared the lamb by abrogating the law of animal sacrifices.

Prior to Aries was Age of Taurus - worship of cows. Moses destroyed the Golden Calf that had been made for worship. Prior to Taurus - the Age of Gemini - here we have Adam and the story of Cain and Abel. So basically the Bible documents 3 great months of the Great Year.

In Revelations 4:5-9 - a great throne is described on a sea of glass like crystal. About this throne are 4 beasts (Relations 4:7). They are describe as having the face of a lion, calf, man, eagle. These are precisely the four pillars of the Age of Aquarius - Leo, Taurus, Aquarius (man with water), and Scorpio. Hence Revelations is referring to the coming of Age of Aquarius or the world of Aquarius [3]. From this I'll leave it to you to decide if it will be rough transition or not.

Ages are more than simply tracking physical transitions - they represent spiritual renewal and new potentialities. Moving from the winter of the old age to the spring time of the new one. What was not possible in the previous will be possible in the New World of the New Age. Though the old world is distroyed, a new world is created infused with new spirit and energy.

What the Age of Aquarius is to bring is the age of Man - of the Unity of Mankind and Universal Peace. Since water is the spiritual sign of knowlege, the Age of Aquarius will be an out pouring of knowledge - both scientific and spiritual. Or as Christ promised - the Spirit of Truth leading unto all knowledge.

So there should not be resistance to the transition - but as you can see - today there seems to be a lot of resistance to these principles while at the same time the discovery of great tools that make the world smaller and can bring unity and peace if used properly.

The time of Jesus is the age of Pisces. That is why there is a "Jesus fish". We are ruled by the age of Pisces right now. In the age of Pisces, it is believed that people are followers as opposed to leaders. Aquarius is apparently next (which doesn't make sense because Aquarius is before Pisces) in which it is said that mankind will rise up and take responsibility for its own actions and become leaders. Many people are worried that this transition will diminish the need for God and religion altogether.

By age of Aquarius, it simply means that the constellation Aquarius will take over. *shrug*

The Aquarian Age begins around the year 2600. In 1928, at the Conference of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Leiden, the Netherlands, the edges of the 88 official constellations became defined in astronomical terms. An age roughly corresponds to the time taken for the vernal equinox to move through one of the twelve constellations of the zodiac.

In popular culture, the expression "Age of Aquarius" usually refers to the heyday of the hippie and New Age "movement" of the 1960s and 1970s
