Because we've all been taught that it smells bad. We've been taught that French perfume smells good, but most of it would gag a maggot. It's all perception.
But it is, after all, rotten food that's been placed in a 98.6 degree (F) closed cylinder for 18 hours or so.

It's not only your "leftovers", but also the toxins the body can't process. Ferment that for a day or so and yeah, it smells bad.
