There are so many party ideas......

How about a party designed around on of her school activites?

If she plays basketball for example throw her a "basketball theme" You could make cardboard cutouts of some of her fave players and rent a court to have the party at.

Since it is a birthday milestone..... Why not an "Over-The-Top" party? Have oversized decorations and wrap the gifts in huge boxes even for little gifts. Use lots of ballons. It ould be a real fun party.

How about a "Roaring 20's" party? Ask everyone to come in costume and have different gambling games and set up a "prize bar" where the guests can exchange their winnings?

If your daughter is really into fashion... How about a "Fashion Victim" Party? Have everyone where clothing that they already own but would never wear in public because it is "unfashionable". You could give out a prize to the biggest victim.

How about a "Tacky Party" ? It is similar to the fashion victim, but have everyone wear taped glasses mismatched pants and shirts. Have them bring tacky gag gifts... Ans serve tacky food like cheese sandwhiches, chocolate milk, and fig newtons in the shape of a cake. Play tacky games like musical chairs, bingo, go fish, spin the bottle, simon says, and more

How about a "movie screening" party? You could rent a new release or a favorite oldie and serve popcorn. You could have a trivia game about movies. I had a friend move her tv to her bakyard and set up blankets and lawn chairs and had her screening outside. She served hotdogs and nachos from machines she had rented.

If she is into music.... How about a "Grammy After Party"? You could rent a hall or even a canopy to put over your backyard. Have a red carpet and instruct everyone to dress up. Check in your local yellow pages under preformers/impersonators and see if you can hire a couple to impersonate some famous singers. Ask a few of your daughter's friends parents to be "paperazzi" and take pictures of guests entering and leaving the party. Play all the latest music. And encourage people to dance. If you are computer savvy you could make "CD" invitations. Have the birthday girl make a recording of herself inviting people to come with all the details. You can buy cds very cheap from discount stores and sleeves to deliver then in too.

What's your birthday girl's favorite color? If it's blue why not have a blue party. Make all the decorations in her fave color, cake, and invitations.

Hope these help. Good Luck on the party!!

Make some sort of "necklace" for each guest. It can be a paper cut-out with yarn to put it around your neck. Decorate it in the theme of the party. Then give one to each guest. The trick is that if anyone catches someone else saying a code word or words (what do teenagers say a lot? "like" or "cool" or "hot"), then they get to keep their necklace and any other necklaces they have accumulated. At the end of the party, the person with the most necklaces wins a prize. Make sure it's a really good prize.

You could pick a theme like pirates, a beach party but without the beach or favorite cartoon characters. You could hire DJ and have a non-alcoholic bar stocked with sodas, bottled water and juices. To make the food portion easier, you can have pizza or have it catered, a lot of fast food places cater if they are told about it ahead of time like Churches Chicken for instance. If you can not afford a DJ,any sound system will do if it has large enough speakers. You could give out the invitations the old-fashioned way, face to face decorated in the theme of your party, that can be done at Kinkos or other similar stores, even on your home computer if you have the neccessary programs.

Do a terribly elegant high tea.... very tongue-in-cheek, of course. Serve tea, fresh strawberry lemonade, crumpets, finger sandwiches, petit fours, tiny tarts and eclairs. Have the girls wear pretty dresses with garden party hats and gloves.... with a prize for the best hat? You can use pictures of the Queen Mum on the invitations for inspiration, and they can just raid the thrift stores if budget is an issue. But we girls sure do have a lot of fun when we have an excuse to wear a great hat.

A Stripes party. Everyone wears stripes, whether they match or not, head to toe. Decos are stripes, all varieties. Cake is striped. Serve neopolotan (stirped) ice cream.

How about Pirates of the Caribbean? Everyone come in Pirate clothes, and eat Caribbean foods like shrimp, jerk chicken, rice pilaf, Coconut Cake, Pineapple Smoothies, etc.

Well, it really depends on if it's a girl or a guy, and what they're into. Here's a couple ideas that would probably go over well :)

Sushi Party

Shrimp Sushi Rolls

Sushi:
1/3 cup seasoned rice vinegar
2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cup short-grained sushi rice
1 1/2 cups water
4 sheets toasted nori
Fillings:
1 kirby cucumber or 1/2 regular cucumber, seeded and cut into matchsticks
1/2 firm-ripe Hass avocado, peeled, thinly sliced lengthwise, sprinkled with lemon juice
8 large cooked shrimp, peeled and cut in 1/2, lengthwise
Soy Sauce
Equipment: Bamboo sushi mat

For the rice:
Mix together vinegar, sugar, and salt.
Rinse the rice with cool water in a colander; drain. Put the rice and water in a medium saucepan with a tight fitting lid. Bring to a boil over high heat, reduce heat to very low and simmer, tightly covered, (For a good seal, wrap the pan's lid tightly with a small kitchen towel and cover the saucepan. Make sure the towel's edges are folded up well away from the heat.) Cook until all the water is absorbed, about 15 minutes. Remove the rice from the heat (don't uncover), and set aside for 10 minutes.

Fluff the rice with a fork and transfer to a large bowl. Add the vinegar mixture and toss with a wooden spoon. Spread the rice out on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Fan the rice continuously with a fan or magazine until cooled. Cover the rice with a damp towel.

To assemble rolls:
Place the sushi mat with the slats running crosswise directly in front of you on a clean work space. Lay a sheet of nori shiny-side down and lined up with the closest edge of the mat. Light moisten fingers with water, and evenly press about 1/4 of the rice onto the nori, with 1 1/2-inches uncovered at the far edge. Line up the fillings about an inch from the closest near edge, evenly across the rice. Leave 1 inch of rice uncovered at the far edge.

Beginning with the near edge of the mat, tightly roll up the nori, rice, and fillings into a cylinder. Firmly tug on the rounded mat over the roll as you pull on the far edge of the mat to tighten the roll. Open the mat, dab unsealed edge of nori with a bit of water and roll the sushi forward to seal. Transfer the sushi to a plate and cover with damp paper towels. Repeat with remaining rice and fillings.

Cut each sushi roll, crosswise, into 8 pieces with a sharp wet knife.

Serve with bowl of soy sauce for dipping.

Veggie Sushi

1 1/4 pounds sushi rice (2 3/4 cups)
3 cups water
1/4 cup mirin, plus additional for moistening nori
5 sheets nori (1 package)
4 teaspoons wasabi powder, mixed with 2 teaspoons water
1/2 cup small-diced red onion
1 carrot, julienned
1 red bell pepper, julienned
1 yellow bell pepper, julienned
1 scallion, julienned (green part only)
1 hothouse cucumber, seeded and julienned
1 (10-ounce) jar pickled ginger
Sushi Dipping Sauce:
1/2 teaspoon wasabi powder
1/4 teaspoon water
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon minced pickled ginger
1 teaspoon minced scallion (green part only)
1/4 cup white wine vinegar
3 tablespoons good soy sauce
1/2 teaspoon dark sesame oil

Place the rice in a strainer and rinse under cold running water until the water is fairly clear, about 5 minutes. Shake the water out and allow the rice to dry in the strainer for 15 minutes.
Put the rice in a pot with exactly 3 cups of water and cook covered over high heat until it starts to foam, about 5 minutes. Reduce the heat to low and cook until tender, about 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and sprinkle with 1/4 cup mirin. Replace the lid and allow the rice to steam for 15 minutes. Place in a bowl and cool to room temperature.
To prepare the sushi, place a bamboo sushi roller flat on a table with the bamboo reeds horizontal to you. Sprinkle lightly with water. Place 1 nori sheet on top, smooth side down, and moisten lightly with mirin. With damp hands, press 1 1/4 cups rice flat on top of the nori, leaving 1 1/2-inch edges on the top and bottom, but pressing all the way to the sides. Make sure the rice is pressed even and smooth.

Spread 1/4 teaspoon of wasabi paste in a horizontal stripe near the lower edge of the rice. Over the wasabi, lightly sprinkle the red onions in a horizontal stripe. Place strips of carrots in a horizontal stripe, on top of the wasabi and onions, and follow by piling the red and yellow peppers, scallions, and cucumbers on top, making a tight, straight bundle of vegetables. Place 1 layer of pickled ginger slices on top.

To roll the sushi, pick up the near edge of the bamboo roller and hold it with the nori, then pull them up and over the vegetable bundle until the nori reaches the rice on the other side. Press the roller to make a round bundle, then roll the bundle to the far edge of the nori and press again to make a round bundle. (The nori should totally enclose the rice and vegetables in a round tube, but the ends will have rice and vegetables sticking out.) Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients. Keep the rolls under a damp towel and refrigerate until ready to serve. To serve, slice off the ends with a very sharp knife and slice each roll into 8 equal pieces.

Meanwhile, for the sushi dipping sauce, combine the wasabi powder and water to make a paste. Mix in the red pepper flakes, ginger, scallions, vinegar, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Serve the sushi at room temperature with the dipping sauce.

Candy Sushi

1 tablespoon butter, cut into pieces
12 regular marshmallows
2 cups puffed rice cereal (recommended: Kellogg's Rice Krispies cereal)
4 fruit roll-ups (pressed dried fruit rounds, 8 inches) any brand, any flavor
8 strips licorice candy (recommended: Twizzler's brand), any flavor – pieces should be 6 to 7 inches long, trim to match width of roll-ups
Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat and add marshmallows. Stir marshmallows until completely melted. Remove mixture from heat and add cereal. Stir to coat cereal evenly in melted marshmallows.
Roll out the fruit roll-ups. Place 1/4 of the coated cereal onto each fruit roll up and spread and gather toward 1 side of roll up. Place 2 licorice twists onto the center of the spread out cereal mix. Wrap and roll the candy and fruit, maneuvering the licorice to the center of the roll, so that the finished product resembles a sushi roll. Repeat with remaining rolls.

Place a sharp knife into a bowl of very warm water. Cut candy sushi with warm knife and arrange on a plate then serve.

California Rolls

3 1/3 cups rice
5 1/3 tablespoons vinegar
5 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons salt
10 sheets seaweed, halved
1/2 pound imitation crab, cut into long, thin pieces
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 cucumber, peeled, seeded, and julienne
1 avocado, peeled, seeded, and cut into long, thin pieces
Sesame seeds
Wash the rice until the water rinses clear. Drain the rice in a colander and let it stand for 30 minutes. Place the rice in a pot or rice cooker, and add 4 cups of water or follow the instructions on a rice cooker. Bring the water to a boil. Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover the pot. Cook for 15 minutes. Remove the cover, place a damp towel over the rice, and let cool for 10 minutes.
You can find sushi vinegar prepared at a grocery story or you can easily make it by pouring the vinegar, sugar and salt into a pan under low heat until the sugar and salt are dissolved. If you like sweeter vinegar, just add more sugar.

Pour sushi vinegar over cooked rice and mix it gently. You can do this in a wooden bowl for making sushi rice or in your rice cooker by turning off the cooker and pouring the vinegar and mixing gently and evenly and leaving it until it cools down to room temperature. The lid should remain open.

Cover a makisu (sushi rolling mat) with plastic wrap. Place half of a sheet of the seaweed over the plastic on the mat. Place a handful of rice across the seaweed and spread it evenly over the seaweed. Toss the imitation crab with the mayonnaise in a small bowl. Place some of the imitation crab meat meat along the center of the rice. Add some cucumber and avocado along the center of the rice. Using the mat and plastic wrap, roll the rice around the filling and press lightly to seal. Remove the mat and plastic wrap and sprinkle the roll with sesame seeds. Cut the sushi roll into bite sized pieces. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.

Fondue is another really fun option. It's social and super yummy :) Here's a couple recipes

Chocolate Fondue

3/4 cup heavy whipping cream, reserve 1/4 cup to thin if fondue begins to thicken
4 bittersweet chocolate bars, chopped, 3 1/2 ounces each
2 tablespoons Frangelico or Amaretto liqueur, optional
1/4 cup finely chopped hazelnuts or almonds, optional
Suggested Dippables, choose 3 or 4 selections of the following:
Hazelnut or almond biscotti
Salted pretzel sticks
Cubed pound cake
Sliced bananas
Stem strawberries
Sectioned navel oranges
Ripe fresh diced pineapple

Heat 1/2 cup cream in a heavy non-reactive saucepot over moderate heat until cream comes to a low boil. Remove the pan from the heat and add chocolate. Let the chocolate stand in hot cream 3 to 5 minutes to soften, then whisk chocolate together with the cream. Stir in liqueur and/or chopped nuts and transfer the fondue to a fondue pot or set the mixing bowl on a rack above a small lit candle. If fondue becomes too thick, stir in reserved cream, 1 tablespoon at a time, to desired consistency. Arrange your favorite dippables in piles on a platter along side chocolate fondue with fondue forks, bamboo skewers or seafood forks, as utensils, for dipping.

Cheddar and Beer Fondue

1 sack, 10 ounces, 2 1/2 cups, shredded sharp Cheddar, available on dairy aisle
1/4 to 1/3 pound, 4 to 6 ounces, Gruyere, shredded
1 rounded tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup German lager beer
2 tablespoons spicy brown mustard
A few drops hot sauce
A few drops Worcestershire sauce
For Serving:
1 1/2 pounds cubed or thick sliced and browned wursts: knock, brat or brot,
1 package mini party franks (recommended: Boars Head)
1 head cauliflower, separated into florets
1 small jar mini Gherkin pickles, drained
1 small jar pickled onions, available on vegetable aisle
1 small, round loaf rye, pumpernickel or sour dough bread, cubed

Combine cheeses in a bowl with flour. Add beer to a small pot and bring up to a bubble over medium heat. Reduce the heat to simmer and add cheese in handfuls. Stir constantly, melting the cheese in batches. Stir in a figure-eight pattern with wooden spoon. When the cheese has been incorporated fully, stir in the mustard, hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce. Transfer fondue to warm fondue pot.
In a large skillet, bring 2-inches of water to a boil and blanch the cauliflower for 2 to 3 minutes, drain and arrange around the fondue pot.

In the same pan, bring the cooking water back to a boil and add the mini franks and sliced wursts. Cook, uncovered until all the liquid has evaporated. Add 1 tablespoon butter to the pan to crisp the casings. Pile wursts and dogs near fondue. Complete the dipping selections with dishes of pickles, onions and cubed bread.
