Yes you can. That's the only thing my doc will allow me after 10pm when I'm having a fasting blood test. In all actuality, that's the only thing you should have before any tests for a more accurate reading/tests. Your doc will specify if he needs you to eat for a certain kind of test.

For a fasting blood sugar test, do not eat or drink anything other than water for at least 8 hours before the blood sample is taken.

Water does not affect your blood sugar levels or anything that is checked in your blood. You can safely drink it. Remember it is important to stay well hydrated and you can only do so by drinking water as you are not allowed to have anything else after midnight. Remeber to take your medication and some food when you go for the test so that you will have something to eat after the test. If you spend too much time in the que waiting for your test and you begin to feel unwell inform staff so that they will attend to you as soon as possible.

They usually say take morning meds, except any for diabetes, with small sips of water. Sounds to me like some, not lots, of pure water would not hurt, but keep up the no caffeine, no diet drinks, etc., and you should be fine. Waking up in the nite, thirsty and needing to urinate frequently just happens to be classic symptom of diabetes.. Just thought II would warn you, so you get no big surprises.

yes you can drink as much water as you like as theres nothing in it that will affect blood results. In fact im always being told to drink more water before my tests as i often get de-hydrated which makes it harder to get the veins.

If a fasting blood sample is required, patients must not eat from midnight the previous evening and can only drink water, black tea or black coffee (but no sugar!).
