I suggest getting a book at the book store so you can understand and keep as a referance. It's a learning process. Vegetarians do not eat dead animals and fish are animals.

Bistro is wrong, it's vegans that avoid all animal products. Depending on your level of vegetarianism, many do eat eggs and dairy products.

There's many, like, levels of vegetarianism.

Some people do it for health, and so they eat fish because fish is a very healthy source of the hard-to-find protein that they sacrifice by not eating other animals.
Plus, what's a fish? It's the closest life form to a non-living thing. Killing a fish isn't like killing a cow or even a bird.
Also, they may eat such things as milk and cheese (But not eggs, usually).

Some people really don't believe in killing animals at all, and then they get all their nutrients from the ground. Soy is their only hope of survival. They'll eat anything from the veggie aisle.

Then there's Vegans. Vegans are intense. I don't know all the codes, but they only eat vegetables of the highest and healthiest order. I believe you need to have a lot of money to survive as a vegan because otherwise you can't afford to buy all organic food all the time.

Vegetarians and vegans can get very thin and are often victims of malnutrition after years of the practice.
Remember that smoking pot won't help you with malnutrition problems.

It sounds like you are hung up on labels. What you eat and don't eat is your decision. I personally eat eggs and dairy products but not meat or fish, but there is really no orthodoxy. Eat what feels right for you and stop worrying about the labels. (I ate fish for a while, but it really gave me gas, so I stopped and then felt better; listen to your body.) You don't even have to say, "I am a vegetarian" if people bug you about the definition - you can just say, "I don't eat meat."

It seems that everybody knows a pale, sick vegetarian - well, they probably know some unhealthy meat-eaters, too, LOL. If you cut out meat and eat nothing but french fries and froot loops, yeah, you won't be very healthy - duh! If you eat a good variety of fruits, vegetables, peanuts, beans, grains, etc, and maybe some dairy and eggs, then you'll have ten times the energy of most meat eaters. And you'll only be pale if you stay indoors all the time and never exercise!

Oh, about eggs - commercial eggs are unfertilised, so they cannot grow into baby chickens.

I am always toying around with being vegetarian, I could be vegetarian if I could have the milk, chese eggs, but I don't think I could be vegan because I like variety and I think soy chese is gross.

do a lot of research before making the jump. There is a book called the Idiots Guide to being vegetarian. There is also a vegetarian magazine which you could purchase at a good local health food store. Someone above said that a fellow office worker she knows is always sick and misses more work than anyone else. I also find this to be true. a Lady I worked with who is a vegetarian is always pale, and running around with colds.

PETA also has a free go veg package as well. enjoy the journey.

When you don't want to eat anything that comes from an animal (ex. milk, eggs, meat, etc.) that means you are a vegan. If you are a vegetarian you just don't eat meat (the meats that you eat is optional depending on how you feel about eating certain animals). If you do stop eating meat, you should find another way to get protein by eating things like beans, and other protein filled foods.

It's an important decision to make. You need to decide why you are cutting certain foods out of your diet. Read up on it. Nobody else can tell you what you can or cannot eat...that's something you must figure out for yourself. And I don't care what anybody else says about vegetarians not being healthy. Does Pam Anderson look healthy? She's a vegetarian. I'd look at all the fat, sedentary non-vegetarians before I looked at one vegetarian girl who misses a lot of work.

You can decide for yourself till how far you want to go. Some people eat fish but no meat, some eat no meat and no fish, some (vegans) eat no animal products at all. Some check out all the ingredients on product info to make sure they don't eat any animal products, some just don't eat pure meat. How far you want to go is your decision.

If you stop eating meat, make sure you eat things like quorn, soyaproducts like tofu and tempe to replace them. This is important for certain vitamins and minerals.

There are many good sites about vegetarianism with recipes and advices. Check them out to prepare yourself.

Its a good decision. I am also having problems with my teeth and gums after eating meat. But if you are a weight trainer then there is no substitute for first class proteins.

You can eat almost anything except beef, mutton, chicken, fish and eggs (never forget that eggs are also a potential chicken). In case you kept eating eggs you can never call yourself a pure and unadulterated vegetarian.

you cant eat any meat except for fish. some people don't even eat fish. but i think if you love animals and believe they have a right to have a life, then it's a good idea to become a vegetarian.

theres a bunch of different levels of vegetarianism, vegan means no animal derived products at all, while some people still eat eggs, milk and fish and still call themselves vegetarian. i tried going without meat for a few months, then i realized i was getting fat, and i remembered meat is tasty.
