could be the liver and/or kidneys.
liver disease will have a build up of toxins (as well as say, a virus) that the kidneys can't handle (overload).
have they tested her for hepatitis c or b?
if it is hbv she could of had a latent state, carrier state without symptoms up until now.
if it is hcv (not a true STD), millions have it in the united states and don't know it as doctors will treat the symptoms as seperate diseases without the cause: HCV. HCV is rarely passed sexually so you have nothing to worry about. The reason for this is it is blood to blood transmission only. You have more worrie's just going to your barbers......
if it is HCV, the only thing you will need to worry about is getting your wife through treatment. (antiviral chemotherapy)

This most likely indicates she has kidney disfunction most likely caused by diabetes, whether it is borderline or full blown. Albumin is a protein that is filtered by the kidneys. When the kidneys are functioning correctly, the albumin is filtered through. When they are not, albumin is then found in the urine. If she doesn't have a follow-up appt with her doctor, she needs one. She should be seen soon and get this checked out further.
