I do not wear leather, fur, feathers, or wool.Of course, it depends on your reasons for being veggie. If someone is veggie strictly for health reasons, he or she probably still wears leather.I myself am against animal cruelty and exploitation in any form.

No way, I have been a Vegetarian for about a year and as I far as I know no vegetarian or vegan would go about wearing leather shoes or anything made from any animal. I know quite a few Vegans and Vegetarians and none of them wear leather in any way.

As a vegan I made the decision NOT to wear leather shoes or products made from animals. I think it is a personal decision that is up to the person to make. I know as a vegan people always question my diet and then try to find what they can, usually it is "Well, your shoes are leather." And I always reply, "No, they arent, they are man made materials." Usually that floors them and they are left without an argument <>

I'm vegetarian and I do wear some leather shoes as I do a lot of walking and leather conforms to your feet making them fit better, I find it very difficult to find comfy, inexpensive non- leather shoes. However I wouldn't use leather for other purposes i.e. I don't own leather bags, belts or a sofa wear other fabrics will do just as well.

I have recently made the decision to become a vegetarian. (I decided yesterday) I'm doing it for health reasons and because I believe it's a healthier and more compassionate way of life. I have leather shoes, purses, accessories that I will continue to use and wear until they wear out. Once they've worn out then I will buy cruelty free products. I'm not going to throw out what I already have, but I won't buy any more.

This old chestnut again!

Do people who eat meat rear and kill the animals themselves?

I've been a veggie for 25 years simply because I don't like meat or fish or chicken. I am opposed to animal cruelty but as there are so many animals killed each year to feed the carnivores, and leather is a by product of this cruelty, I feel OK about wearing leather shoes - after all, what else would they do with it?

When people stop eating animals I will stop wearing leather shoes.

I don't, but I was never a big leather person before I became a vegetarian, either. I mostly wear Crocs.

Both of my parents and at least two of my grandparents have or had diabetes. In fact, my grandmother died of complications from diabetes including one of her feet having to be amputated because of gangrene. I was having some pretty serious symptoms of following in suit with other diabetic family members (although I wasn't formally diagnosed) so I decided to adopt a vegan diet for my health.

There's been a lot of buzz about diabetics doing well on vegan diets, which is part of the reason I decided to go that way. Here are some sources in case you're interested:

For me the choice was simple. I said to myself, "I prefer not to die at 47 (like my dad) or get a foot amputated, thank you very much." It's nice to know that my choice has some beneficial effects on the environment and towards efforts at ending animal cruelty, though admittedly it is not my primary reason for adopting a vegan diet. So, to answer your question, I'm not ready to throw out my leather shoes just yet.

I worked with a vegan many years ago. He would wear Converse canvas sneakers which had rubber soles. In the winter he would only wear boots made from cloth and rubber. No leather!
