Everything you said is ok, but be warned about prescription fish ois such as Omacor the side effect can can literally kill you, as for niacin the only one that works in bringing down HDL and Tryclycerides is Enurance sustained released. There is a great book call ed the "8 Week Cholesterol Cure" that really works. I would have regular blood work to monitior your liver functions but what you are proposing is a much safer alternative to Statins which in them selves are dangerous and by the way they also have a prescription niacin so , obviously the drug companies are following what the lay people have known for years. I say this from experience because I have heart diesease and have used this regimen with great success for 10 years and have not died from from Fish oil or niacin, my doctor advocated the use of these "vitamins" and works with me on monitoring my Lipids. Also Fish oil does not contain any vitamins at all

Yes. Some of the cholesterol lower medicine side affects scare me. The Niacin can cause flushing (red cheeks) if you take really high dosages.

Cholesterol is basically "bad fat". Your friend should stick to a low fat diet. However, the body needs a certain amount of fat and there are some "good fats" that can actually lower cholesterol. These would be found in nuts for example. Make sure your friend has a diet with plenty of fruit and veg. He/she should have a very (if any) limited amount of dairy, red meat, fried foods, etc... They should chose low fat varieties of cheese and things. If your friends cholesterol level is very high and your friend is at risk from it, a doctor may perscribe medication to lower it - however, your friend would have had to try with a healthy diet before hand to see if that worked.

It's good but there are two kinds of niacin...one kind, you need high doses and could hurt your liver. I guess if you're not going nuts, you're fine..follow the directions. But, may require larger doses..and that's where you have to watch it.
You may want to try this for a good 6 months and see if it helps...

They say it works, and other stuff too like garlic, oatmeal and almonds.
The diet and exercise thing has worked for me over time. I didn't like that niacin "flush". I don't trust all those little pills just because they're sold in cool stores...

No it is not OK!
Have you had a test to see what your levels are?
Niacin & "fish oils" have heavy metals in it that can kill your kidneys, liver and you!
See your doctor first before you do anything this stupid ok!
